I worked at a sporting goods place throughout high school, and they weren't popular then. When did they become mainstream?

The first pair I saw in person were with a buddy of mine in Dynamics class, circa 1998.
They actually used to say Costa Del Mar in a little medallion on the side back then instead of the C.
He was a super hardcore bass guy back then.....would have been an early adopter, if you will.
Then, it seemed like everyone had them after that.

Never heard of em before college, grew up fishing fresh water, still fish 99% fresh. I have had 4 pair since.
Awesome shades and awesome company. I have a pair being fixed right now.
Never understood why people give a crap when others wear or support a product or company that they thought was cool before it went main stream..... If its a good product it's bound to popular, deal with it.

They are damn fine sun glasses. I've had several pair since at least 2004 or so. I can't walk outside without sun glasses during the day much these days due to the glare. My vision hasn't changed, but I think they have made my eyes super sensitive over the years.

Yea... Can you believe that Costa even sells their glasses to people that don't fish but would like to own a nice, dependable pair of shades?

I'm done with Costa. Their products really aren't any good compared to others and the only thing that sets them apart is the lenses. My frames are so stretched out after 3 months and they feel so cheap. I for one am never buying Costas again.

that is what I was driving at....good product with a specific target market and it blew up beyond anyone's expectations.....a true success story.

Unfortunately the lenses are what you pay for. That and the little C on the side of them.
Costa is fortunate that it somehow became the fraternity kid, white collar preferred sunglasses... Only so many people fish consistently and even those who do don't care to drop that kind of scratch on sunglasses.

Not sure if serious. But if you are really stretching out a pair after three months then you need to buy a pair that fits your big arse mushmelon. I have a pair of Swordfishes that I have had for 10 years and they still fit perfect.

I think Bourg is just mad cause he lost his when his yak flipped. Then he lost his yak later.

I've worn them since '06. I followed the fad in college and glad that I did. I used to wear nothing but Oakleys in HS for baseball and Costas are 10x better. Been through only 2 pairs so far and still wear my first pair when the chance of damage or loss is above normal. I'd say that they are durable.

Oakleys just as durable. I wore my first pair for five years before I bought another style and that was probably 4 years ago and I'm still wearing both

I'm mad because I spent 200 bucks on a shitty pair of shades. Next pair will be Mauis or RayBans

They fit fine, the hinges just blow bigtime.

Mauis. Rays aren't any better for fishing.
My old brines stretched within a year. My new ones haven't stretched at all. Its a slightly updated frame though.
FWIW brother sent my old ones in that had the frames stretched out and the rubber started falling off. They were 3 years old. They replaced the frame for free, he just had to pay shipping.
