We were extremely fortunate to have won the first game. Don't be delusional like the Gumps can be. If they make half their FG...we lose that game

You really aren't lucky when you play a great team heads up on their field and beat them.

Here are the attempted field goals by Bama:

1ST QTR: 4th and 7 at LSU 27 Cade Foster 44 yard field goal MISSED.
1ST QTR: 4th and 20 at LSU 33 Cade Foster 50 yard field goal MISSED.
2ND QTR: 4th and 17 at LSU 31 Jeremy Shelley 49 yard field goal BLOCKED, Eric Reid for 26 yards, to the Alab 48.
2ND QTR: 4th and 8 at LSU 17 Jeremy Shelley 34 yard field goal GOOD.
3RD QTR: 4th and 4 at LSU 29 Cade Foster 46 yard field goal GOOD.
OT: 4th and 20 at LSU 35 Cade Foster 52 yard field goal MISSED.

For comparison here are the LSU field goal attempts:

2ND QTR: 3rd and Goal at ALA 2 Drew Alleman 19 yard field goal GOOD.
4TH QTR: 4th and 8 at ALA 13 Drew Alleman 30 yard field goal GOOD.
OT: 3rd and Goal at ALA 8 Drew Alleman 25 yard field goal GOOD.

Note the following:

1) They missed 3 (not 4, one was blocked) long field goals. The shortest of those was 44 yards. If you look at their field goal stats on the year Cade Foster made 2 of 9 field goals. Them converting 2 of 5 attempts is markedly better than that average (especially considering the long distance).

quote:

2011 (SOPHOMORE): Cade Foster is the Crimson Tide's starting kicker on kickoffs and place-kicker on field goals longer than 40 yards ... is averaging 63.0 yards on 75 kickoffs this season and is 2-for-9 on field goals, hitting from 45 yards against Tennessee and 46 yards against LSU.

The other kicker was Jeremy Shelley who made the only attempt that wasn't blocked. If anything Bama made more of their field goals in that game than their statistics for the year indicate they should have.

2) LSU made their field goals because they were chip shots. They had attempts of 19, 30, and 25 yards because they were on the 2 yard line, 13 yard line, and 8 yard line. That is not accidental. That means you made deeper drives into their territory than Alabama was able to sustain in LSU territory.

3) LSU did much better on the ground than Alabama did. Our passing game was lousy betweeen JL and JJ but when you put up almost 150 yards on the ground against Bama and hold them to 96 yards rushing you have done some work.

I do agree that the team was not psyched to play Bama again (and agree you could see it in everyone other than Miles in the ESPN interview) because they had already beaten them on their field. I wish they had felt differently but I understand the reaction.

The whole problem with this argument is they isn't have a good kicking game.

If they had a great kicking game and missing those kicks was abnormal that would be one thing. They were attempting FGs that were not in their range and not even close to being considered points left on the field.

The media and ignorant fans would just rather say Saban is a god and didn't frick up those coaching decisions on 4th down.
