The fact of the matter is the first two are possibly both top 10 ALL TIME. IMO the first film is the greatest in cinema history.
This. The strengths of the first two films more than make up for the weaknesses of the third movie. They are THAT good. The Godfather trilogy is the greatest trilogy of all-time IMHO.

The godfather
Star Wars
Batman
I'm sure I'm in the minority here but I never really cared about these films. I respect what Peter Jackson did but I just didn't connect with them. I really don't think I'll ever watch them again.

I mentioned this in TDKR thread but for me it's #2 behind the LOTR trilogy. Toy Stories coming in at #3. Also depends on how you look at Star Wars too. If you count the last three then they are out. If you only count the originals, then they are in the discussion for the top spot too. I'd still have them fourth though. The Godfathers finished ridiculously bad so it's hard to say for them. Three was just awful, I wish they never would have made it.
Edit: Stupidly forgot about the Back to the Future series. It's definitely top 5.

No, I don't. Because while I don't think The Godfather Part III is in the same league as the other two films, I still like it and try not to nitpick at simple things that wouldn't happen in real life.
Agreed. Godfather Part III isn't bad by any means, it just isn't a masterpiece like the other two are.

the Look Who's Talking trilogy doesn't get enough respect

How can anyone say Begins was better than Godfather III or Return of the Jedi or any of the Indiana Jones films.
Because its a competently made film. Can't say the same for some of the Indy films, Godfather III, and especially Return of the Jedi. There are some issues, but it was the first live action Batman film to get it right. Its a great film and is better than the Dark Knight in many ways.

Begins might not be special either but it is more than fair to say begins is better than or comparable to any of those movies
I actually do think that Begins was something we've never seen before: A superhero tale taken completely seriously as more a crime drama. Keep in mind we just got off of Batman and Robin and went straight to this. There was no "wink wink" at the camera like in other Superhero films. It changed the genre completely really.

Maybe Iron Man 3 is great and then we have to consider it as well?
Iron Man isn't even close to Batman, IMHO. No matter how good #3 is.

Lord of the Rings just seems like one long-arse movie broken into three parts.
Not a true trilogy of separate movies.

Well the same goes for a lot of these movies. Toy Story is the same way. Godfather 1&2 were like that. LOTR is one long story but when you have to wait years to finish it, it's definitely a trilogy

2)Everything else

agree, but I can't put it above The Godfather trilogy. Part III sucked, but the first two are two of the greatest films of all time.
Part III is like Krystal Skull. Made years later and doesn't come close to the older movies.

I am declaring that Godfather and Godfather II are a trilogy on their own.
The Godfather
The Godfather 2a (Vito's story)
The Godfather 2b (Michael's story)

1) LOTR
2) Dark Knight
3) Godfather
4) Star Wars
The way I viewed it is that a trilogy is only as good as it's worst film. In my opinion, the first two on the list had three great films. The other two had two great films and one mediocre film.

Agree but i said it "might" not be special for argument sake. RTOJ is complete crap outside of the throne room scenes, and even those are a little incomplete because WTF is the emperor actually tempting Luke with?
