I think the only member of that family with useful skills is the kid who became a lawyer, but who the frick would hire him to argue in court?

It's like hiring Johnny Cochrane in the sense of "you just know this client's guilty", except that Joe's kid is no Johnny Cochrane.

I think that JayPa, who spent the vast majority of his career as an assistant under his old man, has elected himself spokesman for the family.

Some folks simply don't know when to shut up. The deed's done, the storm has arrived. They need to ride it out as graciously as possible. Once all the shite stops flying, which may be awhile, then pick up the pieces and graciously start trying to rebuild Jo Pa's image. As long as they keep fighting and denying, the damage is only going to continue and get worse.
