I very good friend of mine that has been in the grocery industry for 30yrs in Louisiana let me know that the Rouse's locations coming up would all be from the ground up(no taking over an existing location). EBR, Ascension and Livingston. Specific locations still to be determined. The ground up location of the LeBlanc/Payless at the corner of 61 and Duplessis(not Germany) Rd will be an upscale version of the other locations. This store will take the place in my check ledger of the one on 42.

Ascension and Livingston? So only one in Baton Rouge? Disappointing if true.

It is not disappointing, it is an absolute disgrace if that is true. Thibodaux their home has three, one of which is their model store. Laffy has two and doesn't have the population of BR.

I like Rouse's but think it's given too much credit on this board.

are you counting the one in youngsville as the second?

Br does have a bigger pop but it also has more "higher end" (whatever you want to call it) grocery stores (whole foods, calandros, etc) than laffy so there was more of a market for them to take over when they came into lafayette.

I think if given the opportunity to build 3 new grocery stores in the BR metro, I'd do the same. (1 in BR, AP, LP) That firmly places one in each of the population centers. As stated earlier, Baton Rouge shoppers have options for higher end groceries. AP & LP residents tend to have to drive "into the city" to get that kind of selection.

Not sure I understand the obsession with Rouse's. I've been to the newer one downtown in New Orleans. It's a decent grocery store, but nothing that spectacular. Do tell

It's also not like they can't build more. I'm guessing they didn't start by building three at the same time in Thibodaux

This, and there is no consistency between stores.

You have some like the ones downtown and mid-city that are similar to whole foods, and have great selections. Then you have some like the surburban locations, that only have Salmon, Catfish and Tilapia in the fish section.

The Rouses by my house sucks with its selection.

i like them b/c its upgrade from the food stamp pantries that surround me. It's upsclae, better deli and produce slection, and more variety. I wouldn't call it spectacular, but beats going to SWM or Starget any fricking day

Interested to see what the new Alexander's will do when it is finished. Sounds like they have some serious plans, hope it is delivered as billed.
