Howdy

This Idaho Alum is traveling to cheer on my Vandals when they play they Mighty Tigers in September. There will be four of us coming for the game day experience since it most likely won't be a Vandal victory.
So I am looking for the local scoop on stuff to do and see while in town. I love food from the sea so I will take restaurant recommendations. We should be there 2-3 days before game day. Plus any invite to a real SEC tailgate; i'll even bring a beer or two.

Also any motel recommendations-it appears the hotels right next to LSU are already sold out.

Appreciate any info you will share with me.
Looking forward to the trip to experience what LSU and Louisiana has to offer.
Thanks

Aside from all the jabs youre gonna get from rantards, we all hope you have a good time in your visit to Baton Rouge besides getting your arse kicked on the football field.

As people have noted, go eat at The Chimes. It's off Highland Road an easy walk from the stadium. Take some time to walk around the campus and soak it all up. Maybe drive passed Alex Box (our baseball stadium) as it's one of the nicer ones in the nation.

Really anywhere you're gonna go, there will be people tailgating and since I'm willing to bet there won't be very many Idaho fans coming down for the game, I know you'll meet many LSU tailgaters wanted to chat football and feed you good food and beer/liquor.

Hope you enjoy your trip and

Parrins is a great place to eat. Fantastic seafood. Also Acme Oyster House--get the char-grilled oysters. They will move the date of your first heart attack forward a month or two, but as you fall to the ground grasping your chest and trying to breathe your only wish will be to get back down here for more of those oysters.

Enjoy your time in Tiger Stadium. It's the best place in the world to see a football game. I may be a little biased, though.

Tons of great food, I'd invite you to my tailgate but you'd never find it without gps coordinance.

There will be world class SEC tailgates everywhere. We show the SEC how to tailgate. When you wear visitors clothing and are nice to people you can drink and eat at any tailgate.

Welcome. Get a shrimp poboy at Georges

Vandal, you've got balls to post here. You'll have a great time regardless. Say hello to folks, walk around during gameday and you'll eat and drink well. Get ready for the heat & humidity, cause it'll feel a lot different than the high plains of Idaho. Cheers

To really experience BR, hit up any waffle house or Ihop around midnight after the game. You will have stories to tell your folks back home

Are you seriously holding out hope? This is far, far from the Kibbie Dome my friend; five times as big and 10 times as loud.

I'll provide more help in a later post. Glad you'll be making the trip.

Where are you staying and how are you getting to the game? You need to figure that out.

If I were you (and I'm from the west) I'd stay in downtown BR at the Hilton or Hotel Indigo. If you want to get into the tailgating then you should rent a car and get their early. By early, I mean 7-9 AM for a night game. You won't be alone.

Eat and drink around Tiger Stadium on game day. See the other recs for the rest of your visit. Unfortunately it's not crawfish season, but plenty to eat.

Do wear your Vandal gear in full force. People are very hospitable to non threatening OOC opponents and respect that you made the trip. Expect some tiger baiting but it's all in good fun. If you're Alabama or Florida it's a much different story.

Def. wear your colors, you won't get a lot of shite. Not like if you were Bama or Fla...er anybody else in the SEC but Vandy.

ASide from that, try to go out in NOLA Friday night, then get to BR early, then party after. Then back to NOLA for the Saints game on Sunday.

Monday, it'll all seem like a movie.

Try the Hampton Inn on Reiger Rd ( Just off Seigen Lane). I just checked with a buddy, and he said they have good, clean rooms, at a good rate and easy to get to campus. They are also close to good restaurants and shopping areas.
