This monster is borderline unfair and will be the subject of much controversy this week. Consider some of these statistics:

-Nearly 7,200 yards and the course has been cut to a Par 70.
-Two par 5's holes were converted to a par 4 without changing their yardage, including the first tee, a 520 yard par 4.
-Hole 3 is a 247 yard par 3.
-Holes 5 and 6, also par 4's come in at just under 500 yards.
-Hole 16 is a monstrous 670 yard par 5- the longest par 5 in U.S. Open history.
-At Olympic, most fairways slope in the opposite direction of the hole layout. For example, a dogleg left fairway will slope dramatically left-to-right. This kills distance.

Check the course out here:

Official U.S. Open Course Guide

All this length is coupled with thin fairways, lightening greens and primary rough of six inches. The intermediate rough is three-four inches, while some fairways go straight from fairway to primary rough.

If this course gets any strong wind or inclement weather, the scores could get even more embarrassing. This is a direct result of the low scores at last year's Open. Punishment is in order, apparently.

After last year's US Open, we could be looking at another Massacre at Winged Foot situation this week.

Everyone is playing on the same course. It doesn't really matter what the Par is set to. The number is really just arbitrary when you think about it.

They could make it a par 40. The fewest strokes wins regardless.

Last year scores must have really pissed them off. Lowest score wins regardless so it's not really that big of a deal.

I like watching it when it's that way.

Check out this LINK from Graeme McDowell's twitter. He calls it "single file down the 18th fairway at Olympic.". Incredible the way they set those courses up sometimes.

No water on the course and only one fairway bunker and I think only one person will be under par

These were my thoughts exactly. The committee hated last year's success and now it's time to pay for it. I don't mind watching these guys face the challenge but it should be fair. When a guy hits a perfect lag putt that ends up 20 feet past the hole or regardless of where you hit your drive it won't stay in the fairway, you start to question whether the course is capable of rewarding good play or if it just punishes ALL play.

You won't see this at this US Open. The 18th green was redone to allow the back pin position that cost Payne Stewart a 3rd US Open in 1998 that he dubbed "Mickey Mouse" golf.

Played there once. Course is incredibly difficult without the changes.

This

The course will play hard for sure but everyone is playing the same course. They say it's not really a long ball hitters course

I know that sounds crazy but that's the word

Always thought the US Open was fvcking idiotic making its course so fvcking hard, but I'm not a big golf fan so seeing someone win at -14 just sounds cooler than -1.

We are so used to seeing players win a -14, it is nice for a change to actually see the best players in the world struggle massively. It gives a totally different prospective

I agree. I wouldn't want to watch this every week, but for the toughest test in golf, once a year, I love it. The pros have to play like we do...hoping to make par.
