Tough for guys to play those two sports in college.

I did.

I was the captain of the LSU chess team and a four year starter for cup stack team. I was also recruited by Stansbury, the Harvard of the West, but I knew I would be a better fit at LSU

easy. Do what Julius Peppers Did at UNC. He joined the basketball team after football was over with.

Much easier for Peppers back then. UNC was horrible at football. They were done in mid December instead of mid Jan

List of NFL players who played college basketball:

Cris Carter, Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzalez, Jimmy Graham, Donovan McNabb, Terrell Owens, Julius Peppers, and Antwan Randle El.

IDK how they did it, but these guys made it work. I imagine that football comes first when November rolls around, and the player joins the basketball team full-time after the bowls.

Cris Carter - Not sure if he truly ever played basketball at Ohio State

Antonio Gates - Oddly, he didn't play college football because Nick Saban (Coaching Michigan State at the time) wanted him to play only football so he transferred

Tony Gonzalez - Played both sports at Cal

Jimmy Graham - Funny story. He already graduated from Miami before going back to grad school which is when he played football but was already finished with basketball

Donovan McNabb - He barely played basketball. He only logged about 116 mins for his career and scored 41 points over two seasons and 18 games

TO - Also ran track

Peppers - Dude was a freak, hence the nickname. So he could do whatever he wanted at UNC.

Randle El - Didn't know about him but he did play for Indiana but not enough to matter, imo

You did forget...

Justin Gage (basketball at Missouri)
Toby Gerhart - played baseball at Stanford
Andre Johnson - dominate track and field star at the U
Jabari Greer - also did track at Tenn

back when the football season was only 8 or 9 games, lots of guys played basketball too.

let him do the best he can. he will make the choices he makes, by and by. let him enjoy his opportunities.

Welcome to LSU, RSJ.
