What are the best places to eat in Austin? Please include fine dining places for evenings, and dives for lunch.

Uchi for sushi
La Condesa for upscale mexican/fish/etc. Great place
Salt Lick for Bbq (Driftwood, Tx)
Oasis (more for drinks than food)
Fonda San Miguel for Mexican
Barley Swine for tapas/small plates
Lambert's for Bbq

Heard good things about Salt Lick

It's good. Fun, laid back atmosphere. It's byob by the way. A lot of people bring an ice chest.

Salt lick is awesome! Whole foods in BR sells their sauce and rub.
Salt lick is the best in ATX, but rudy's is damn awesome, too.
Check out torchy's tacos for lunch.
Franks has the best hot dogs and sausages. Made from scratch, cheap and very good.

franklin's BBQ is bad arse, but you'll have to wait a few hours to get in. Can't just show up late bc they always sell out.

There are no must haves in Austin, as it's a vastly overrated city and a damn crappy food town.
That said, the barbacoa taco's at Maria's Taco Xpress and the Especial De Carne Asada at El Taquito.

Agreed.
But best bbq in and around Austin is not Salt Lick or Lamberts. Go to Louie Muellers in Taylor, Smitty's or Kreuz's in Lockhart, or City Market in Luling.
Good Brunch: Lamberts, Moonshine, Jack Allen's.
Thai: Titaya's
Chinese: Asia Cafe (authentic chinese, not american chinese) or Chen's Noodles (noodle house with home made noodles)
Seafood (Austin is not a coastal city and is limited):m Perla's
Pizza: Home Slice, Salvation (try the white clam)
DONTS: Cajun, Southern/Homestyle, Italian
New American: Barley Swine, Congress, South Congress Cafe, Mulberry

Curra's, Torchy's. Love them both.
Blue Dahlia is a good place for French style stuff and you can eat in a garden patio out pack that's not too fancy but still nice.
Clay Pit is great Indian, but can be had elsewhere.
For coffee shops, I like Epoch up north and Ruta Maya down south.

I disagree and I grew up in arguably the two best culinary cities in the South (New Orleans and now I live in Charleston). Austin has some good places. I've enjoyed every place I listed.

Love it. From my brief trip I most remember Husk and Tattooed Moose.

We loved Garage Mahal. It's an indian food trailer, but the outside set up is more like a restaurant.
For breakfast, we hit up the Torchy's taco's food trailer and it was really good.
We wanted to hit up Barley Swine and East Side Show Room, but didn't have time.

Eastside Showroom is AWESOME. It's farm-to-table so everything is super fresh. It's also one of Mike Judge's preferred hangouts. :)
