Why is it that LSU fans get friendlier the farther they are from BR

I was in BR a couple of days ago and I had my LSU cap on. I stopped and got gas on Oneal and everyone just looks so grumpy. But when I was in NC last week, I ran into a couple in Kernersville in which the man had a LSU polo on and of course I still had my same hat on. He was like Geaux Tigers and which I replied the same. Why isn't there a noticable showing of love regardless if it's 5 miles away or 900 miles away?

You think distance has a high correlation on whether people are happy or unhappy?

Uh...

Because in br, we take other lsu fans for granted, and the farther away from br you are, the more happy you are to see other lsu fans.

I can see that but not all people in BR are LSU fans.

Bingo, this rant is right on. All LSU people I run into in Tupelo,Ms. where I moved, or Memphis where we visit Beale Street, eat out, or Dr. appt's , or in Jackson, Gulf Coast,or even Birmingham on trips/visits, the LSU people are all friendly and talkative, makes you feel good. When I left B.R. in 88' people were not friendly, when I visit Monroe or Bastrop people are not LSU friendly. Usually we have LSU shirts and hats on and the car has plates and window stickers, so we identify as LSU. It's correct though, people outside the state are a LOT more friendly.

In BR

"Look, That guy has an LSU hat on. I've seen that a hundred times today."

In NC

"Look, that guy has an LSU hat on. Haven't seen a fellow LSU fan in years. Must say hello and Geaux Tigers!"

You think it is something new to see someone with a LSU hat on in BR? Everyone has a LSU hat on. You go out of state, it is rare so when you do come across someone with LSU stuff it is something to connect to others with.

Why would you get a 'geaux tigers' from someone in BR?

Of course the guy in NC will give it to you - it's out of the norm, so he recognizes that fact. In BR you see it all day/every day.
