Dear Friends,
Levon is in the final stages of his battle with cancer. Please send your prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey.

Thank you fans and music lovers who have made his life so filled with joy and celebration... he has loved nothing more than to play, to fill the room up with music, lay down the back beat, and make the people dance! He did it every time he took the stage...

We appreciate all the love and support and concern.
From his daughter Amy, and wife Sandy

Damn, that one hurts. One of the greats!

Losing a legend. This sucks for music in general.

Can you edit the title so it doesn't get the anchor?

His drum fill, while singing, on the Last Waltz version of Up on Cripple Creek is epic. This saddens me a lot, especially since I was looking forward to seeing him at Jazz Fest.

I've read one of his books and gained a lot of respect for him because of his candor and honesty. I can't stand Robbie Robertson solely because of how much Levon hated him.

He's my great grandmother's third cousin or something like that. His people are from Marvell/Turkey Scratch, my people are from Elaine and West Helena. We don't really know that part of the family other than it's freaking Levon Helm, but it's pretty cool that she knew him growing up. She died of cancer also, as did her son/my grandfather. Nonetheless, truly an icon and influence to so many artists.

One of the very best musicians in rock and roll. And definitely one of the coolest. Motherfricker. What a drag.

Saw him at Jazz Fest two years ago.
Ended with The Weight.
Drunkenly jammed to The Last Waltz for many a nights.
They don't make em like Levon no more.
It'll be a sad day indeed.

no doubt. sad to hear the news.

Levon wrote a note on the inside of This Wheel's on Fire for my Dad during a signing many years ago. It reads in part: "Throw up if you have to, but never throw down."

marc cohn sings a song called "listening to levon" about parking with a girl when he was a kid, and not being able to hear a word she said when levon was on
