My Green Egg Table Build (FINISHED!) Updated With Pics

This is really my first wood working project so be gentle on me. I am building a table from these free plans I found online. The project is almost complete. I'm using red oak which is very expensive. This is $250 worth of wood (crazy i know).
I still need to finish the upper part, sand it and stain it. Just thought I would share some pictures....
Any thoughts on what I should stain it?

It's been pretty fun. I think I might have a new hobby. Wood working is very relaxing. If I can build one, anyone can do it. Looks much better than shite I see people selling on craigslist and I don't want to pay $600 at the local dealer for a similar table.

Looks good. But I'm on my iPhone and so can't see all your mistakes. I would keep the stain on the light color side since the egg is dark. Maybe a light walnut.

What'd it cost to build? Are you pretty good with wood work? I've never built shite but a couple deer stands.

I'm going to have around $250 in it. Red Oak is VERY expensive. You could use pine and do it for half that.

This is my first project. I used my dads miter saw with a nail gun and gorilla glue. Nothing else really.
If you have built deer stands I would think this wouldn't be very hard for you.

Where did you get the wood, from a speciality wood supply place?

I'm not sure what the hi-temp tolerance is with gorilla glue, but you'd do well to check. Even ceramic grills radiate heat. Other than that, it looks fantastic.

I think it looks good. I would do like another poster said and go with something on the light color side.

Looking good!
You have that ceramic tile supported pretty well from underneath? I assume it'll be supporting the weight of the BGE.
I agree with this. I build shite all the time just for something to do.

Home Depot has it.

Travertine Tile and wood strips underneath it. I'll make sure to snap a pic of that on my next update.

I've got 3 boards supporting it and I used screws on those. I stood on it and it held me fine so I am hoping an egg won't be a problem.

Looking good! The red oak will resist termites fairly well, but I doubt you'll have it sitting out in the yard... Just make sure you keep it sheltered most of the time and keep up with the finish as needed, or it will rot on ya.

i'd go with a light stain or clear coat it. you paid a premium wood aso why not show it off?

It looks very nice. It appears you paid attention to details.
Why did you choose red oak?
Why did you choose travertine tile?

That is looking good. Is it going to be out in the elements when finished? I built a similar table out of treated pine and put clear sealer on it, but it was off my deck and even with a cover on it got some algae build up. I would suggest a light grey or light brown to show the would grain and then seal the shite out of it or possibly go with a similar color tinted deck stain that has fungicide built in.
When we had our house an deck remodeled I had the cabinet maker throw in a new table out of cypress and added a granite top from remnants from the kitchen and bar. It is a Primo Oval, pretty big and weighs a ton. This was before drawer/cabinet pulls were added and has 6 heavy weight castor wheels below which have come in handy moving the whole thing into the kitchen to stain the deck, etc and the lacquer coating on the wood has held up excellent under the roof on the deck. $400 was a bargain.
ETA - You might want to look at Sherwin Williams "Hawthorne" semi-transparent deck stain, it looks really good on high grade pine decking and allows the wood grain to show through. That is Linden cut 50/50 on the table, I would much prefer the Hawthorne color but the table is great.
