Mel Gibson - the hits just keep coming

In a letter to Mel, a former screenwriter who worked with him shares with the group.
LINK
I'm not sure Gibson is "anti-semetic" so much as he's "completely fricking insane." BTW, if the comments concerning his ex are proved true, this is only the beginning.

Agree. Rebuked artists are childishly petty and vindictive, but still.......

I'm not reading all of that shite, but is the gist of it, "You're a fricking scumbag, but a scumbag I would have gladly worked for if you had accepted my script?"

I'm sure Mel Gibson is crazy but no way he's that openly crazy. Seriously who tells some kid they've just meet they want to stab their ex-gf?
ETA: Also the events of this letter could make an awesome movie.

Sounds like a guy who is pissed that his writing has "no feeling" and "no sense of accomplishment".
The studio rejected his script and now he's pissed. Looks worse on the writer IMO.

I don't get it. In the PS he said it sent it only to Mel's assistant. A lie, or is Mel looking for a new assistant?
ETA: Just found out that this is the same writer who wrote Showgirls.
And his parents sold out the Jews in WW2 Hungary.
And the guy is known for being a lunatic.

Said writer continued to work with Mel the whole time. I call a bit of BS. He only went crazy on Mel once they passed on the script.
Sour Grapes.
But Mel is batshit crazy.
Also talented.

Yeah basically. I didn't realize Joe Eszterhas was still working. I remember how big his name was after Basic Instinct, it was all flops from there.

Oh, I thought that as well.
But after hearing the audio recording of the angry, threatening rant to his ex, it's not that unbelievable.

Gibson's response:
quote:
Joe,
I have your letter. I am not going to respond to it line by line, but I will say that the great majority of the facts as well as the statements and actions attributed to me in your letter are utter fabrications. I would have thought that a man of principle, as you purport to be, would have withdrawn from the project regardless of the money if you truly believed me to be the person you describe in your letter. I guess you only had a problem with me after Warner Brothers rejected your script.
I will acknowledge like most creative people I am passionate and intense. I was very frustrated that when you arrived at my home at the expense of both Warner Brothers and myself you hadn’t written a single word of a script or even an outline after 15 months of research, meetings, discussions and the outpouring of my heartfelt vision for this story. I did react more strongly than I should have. I promptly sent you a written apology, the colorful words of which you apparently now find offensive. Let me now clearly apologize to you and your family in the simplest of terms.
Contrary to your assertion that I was only developing Maccabees to burnish my tarnished reputation, I have been working on this project for over 10 years and it was publicly announced 8 years ago. I absolutely want to make this movie; it’s just that neither Warner Brothers nor I want to make this movie based on your script.
Honestly, Joe, not only was the script delivered later than you promised, both Warner Brothers and I were extraordinarily disappointed with the draft. In 25 years of script development I have never seen a more substandard first draft or a more significant waste of time. The decision not to proceed with you was based on the quality of your script, not on any other factor.
I think that we can agree that this should be our last communication.
Mel

Pineapples. Fart forgiveness. Dirty Jew dog. I just pooped a chocolate popsicle.
Hugs and Kisses,

Gibson with the BOOM!
FTR: This is not the first time Joe has done this to a producer. He did the same kind of inflammatory attack in a "private" correspondence in the 90's that was "accidentally" given to the media.

Didn't know that, but yeah, the whole thing (especially the fact that he couldn't just write the letter, but had to publicize it) smacks of bitterness. However, as anyone who's been in divorce court can tell you, just because someone says shitty things about you out of bitterness doesn't make it untrue.
