Does this idiot not realize that minorities will be used in situations like this when you put a rule like this in place? I say hire the best person for the job, but a lot of people are more worried about the color of their skin.

Muhammad Fotchelaminga from Yemen,
Thaddeus Abercrombie from Madagascar,
Ezekial Sludgegulper from Crotia, and
Zseimnaupopoukookoo Majajoieorjerf from Tanzania

The Dolphins CEO was overheard when he thought he was off air saying he didn't hire Mike Tomlin because he was too "hip hop"

If you don't think that implies because he is black and that didn't deter him from getting the Dolphins job, then I guess I can't really help you there.

Having the rule in place is great and all when you are looking to hire a coach. But to enforce it when a team is trying to fill a spot on a temporary basis is pointless. Is there anything saying you have to follow this rule when hiring on an interim basis? Hell I'm willing to bet most teams don't interview at all. They just hire from within and then follow the rule when looking to fill the spot permanently. And I'm not positive but if they just promote the interim coach they probably don't interview at all.

Right bring the brother in and get his hopes up.

Then hire the coach you wanted from the beginning and move on.

Really helps situation, not.

The NFL is made up of 70% or more african american players, why shouldn't teams have to draft a certain amount of white players to balance the scales.

This racism shite is one sided, thats why it will never go away.

Owners of company's and ball clubs should be able to hire whoever the frick they want, the person who does the job the best, forget the skin color.

It's embarrassing to the person who gets the interview because of his race, if not it should be.

He should be getting interviewed because he is the best football coach availabe at that time.

Maybe that has nothing to do with Tomlin being black and everything to do with the CEO of the Dolphins not liking hip hop culture. Hip hop does not a black person make, you know.

Yes. King Goodell.

He can make up rules as he goes.

When I hear him speak, I wonder how he ever got a job as a head coach. He just spews generalizations and bromides without any particular focus or application.

Then what's the purpose of the dance (interview).

Why waste the time with the mandatory interview of the person your not interested in. Dick head..

Point is the rule is pathetic!!!!!!!!!!!

I think what Herm doesn't realize is that the New Orleans job is not a true opportunity. No one is being passed over because no one is being considered. Parcells personal connection to Payton and practically being a consultant since 2006 is what makes him the only viable external candidate, because he's not really external.

I also think the Rooney Rule isn't really needed. Owners that may not want a black head coach don't exist anymore. There's too much money involved for it to be based on anything other than merit, or marketability in the case of some big name coaches. You're coaching heritage is much more important to your opportunities than your racial heritage.

and what does this prove in the long run. your 'real' candidates are based on qualification--not skin color. a token interview is more of a slap in the face. if one of your candidates happens to be a minority, then great.

this rule is so terrible (and racist)

IIRC it was partially a PR move to satisfy racemongers.
