He isn't allowed to have contact with the "team", but some of these players and coaches are his friends. What is to stop them from making a visit to his home, as friends, with a little film or seeking some advice on the next game plan? I know there are loopholes everywhere, in almost anything of this nature, and I have a feeling Payton will be involved with this season, in some way, whether he is allowed on the sideline, or not.

I totally agree and that's my point. The NFL has a hard on for Payton and I am sure will be watching him like a hawk. So when do you think he gets busted???

My greatest fear is that the Saints brass and Payton are thinking the exact same thing.

If he does - you guys as Saints fans should literally murder him.

I almost find it funny that 99% of Saints fans are defending someone who almost brought your program to its knees (and he still may very well have done that when you add in player suspensions). This isn't his first rodeo when you add it in to the pill stealing incident that got swept under the rug. He seems to genuinely not care about the fans by shrugging off rules...

Seriously, why are you people defending this guy? If I were a Saints fan and saw him - I'd say thanks for 2009 and follow that up with a right to his stupid face for all of this.

Winning cures all ills. Face it, Payton is the best coach New Orleans has ever had. He's a top 5 coach in the NFL right now. Of course the fan base is going to support their coach.

Was he wrong? Absolutely, anyone who says he isn't needs to take off the B&G glasses for a few seconds and look at this situation from a non-fan standpoint. I really hope he doesn't try to contact the team in any way because that would mean he hasn't learned anything from this situation.

He kinda, sorta was the coach when we won our 1st and only Super Bowl. Kinda, sorta.

In some way, very reminiscent of USC fans defending Pete Carroll after the recent NCAA investigation of the program under his watch. The program was made irrelevant for the last two years, and every win during the Carroll era blemished or forfeited. Yet the USC fans defended him, even after he left shortly for the NFL before the sanctions were handed down.

It's not so much defending his actions as it is deserved anger at the extreme punishment handed down upon him. I personally do not like Payton the person, but the coach I love. He rightfully should be disciplined, but not in a way that effects the team, city and region.

It's simple.. he wins.

The Saints have been a maligned team for so long.. and finally they're winners. Their coach has a really bad flaw.. he's arrogant as frick. In the NFL, all that matters is winning. You know SP and crew will come back and win. What we don't know is how well a potential replacement would perform. Who would replace him? Spags? We all saw the job he did in St. Louis....
