Any reduction is good, but I would think it would have to be a pretty significant reduction (in my mind) to be out celebrating. 8-9 games is still a long time, and while I'd be happy, wouldn't be enough to have me out celebrating. We will see.
re: When Were The Saints Informed They Had to Abide The Looney Rule

My guess is that it wasn't addressed at all. They likely didn't expect that the Saints would go outside of the organization.

I remember reading (it may have been in that pdf document from the NFL) about the Saints ranking in the top 5 for unnecessary roughness penalties - or something like that. Obviously they were not #1, or I am sure that would have been pointed out. Are they doing to investigate any of the other 5 teams? Seems it is all about the Saints, and everyone else just gets a free pass.

Does anyone remember watching "Anatomy of A Play", regarding that play? Vilma audibled at the last second, because he read what they were going to do, and it put Tracy Porter in the spot to intercept that ball. Nobody is bringing that up, but are quick to bring up the Favre hits, and the bounty system, supposedly which gave the Saints some advantage.
re: The NFL has precedent on NOT suspending players for "bounties"
Posted by NFLSaintsChris on 3/23/12 at 7:40 pm to Pendulum
The point that many people are missing is just that; the Saints are not really being punished for having a bounty system. The NFL knows it didn't give them an advantage on the field, and they know good and well it is a league wide thing, per former and current players. The NFL knew the Saints had a bounty system going on for the past few years. If it was such an issue, they would have brought the hammer well before now. The punishments are for the fact that the Saints didn't stop, when told to do so more than once, and the fact that they then lied and attempted to cover it up.

re: Pick a date - when does NFL bust Sean Payton for having contact with the team
Posted by NFLSaintsChris on 3/22/12 at 8:59 am to Chad504boy
He isn't allowed to have contact with the "team", but some of these players and coaches are his friends. What is to stop them from making a visit to his home, as friends, with a little film or seeking some advice on the next game plan? I know there are loopholes everywhere, in almost anything of this nature, and I have a feeling Payton will be involved with this season, in some way, whether he is allowed on the sideline, or not.

I'm not understanding this "tainted superbowl" crap. Making extra money to play football didn't give an unfair advantage.
The superbowl was won on the field. Not by how many envelopes got handed out off the field.
I think it is more about perception, than anything else. They didn't have an advantage on the field, but the perception by many is that they did, because this was "cheating".
I think a lot of people are also missing what the true punishment is for. It isn't so much for having a bounty program, as it is that they did not stop it, when warned, and then lied about it.
re: Is Sean Payton a Saints or NFL employee?
Posted by NFLSaintsChris on 3/21/12 at 7:29 pm to TortiousTiger
He isn't officially suspended until the beginning of April, correct? Couldn't the Saints suddenly rework his contract and give him a $7M bonus, before April? Or just give him a bonus anyways? I'm sure there are loopholes that exist.
re: DO NOT SAY 5 turnovers lost the game

The turnovers played a part, but as far as I am concerned, f*ck Greg Williams and the Saints defense. I'm sorry, but I'm done! Completely ridiculous - and that is an understatement!
re: The Brees fumble...

The people crying, in particular, Falcons fans, need to give it a rest. Sure, it would have been a nice momentum swing had Detroit returned that for a TD, but they were outscored by 17 points, and the Saints could have put more on the board, not to mention the last Detroit TD was a garbage time TD when the game was out of reach at that point. That play would not have been the difference - even being early on in the game.
Let's also remember that the Saints turned it over twice, and on not one of the turnovers could the Lions get any points. I guess the refs were playing defense there?
I think it's funny the people who are crying about refs. I guess the refs left Meachum wide open, left Graham on the goal line with nobody on him, let Sproles run almost untouched into the end zone, left Henderson open streaking down the field, and couldn't tackle PT, etc. Seems to me anyone will find an excuse to say they lost for some other reason, not simply that they were outplayed. Refs are human, and calls will be missed from time to time. The refs didn't have anything to do with the outcome of that game.

re: Prisco article on Drew Brees' record
Posted by NFLSaintsChris on 12/27/11 at 1:01 pm to DBG
The people who are upset, wouldn't be, if their team and QB did exactly the same thing. Of course Falcons fans are upset over it. They were blown out on national TV, and gave up the record to Brees in the process. I'd bet they wouldn't feel the same way had the shoe been on the other foot and Matt Ryan had been breaking some record on the Saints. The hypocrisy in sports is comical that way.
The thing is, the Saints always seem to pass, even in the final minutes of games. I've actually been critical of that, how they come out throwing with 3 minutes in a game, rather than running the ball. If I remember correctly, that is part of how the Falcons got back into the first game, leading it to OT. With less than 2 minutes, the Saints threw, rather than running, and with imcomplete passes, gave the Falcons the ball back with 1:55 left. The game last night may have seemed out of reach, but at the same time, teams can score quickly. Anything can happen. You play for 60 minutes, regardless. I remember watching that Monday night game between the Dolphins and Jets when the game seemed out of reach, and back came the Jets to win. You don't stop playing in professional sports, until the game is over. I guess Payton and Brees were supposed to pull a Les Miles and start kneeling with 5 minutes left, as not to upset the Falcons?
People need to get over it if they have a problem with it. This is professional sports. They could have stopped Brees from getting the record. They didn't. That is one them! It doesn't matter if they had one more game left. I actually agree with them getting the record over with, so it doesn't hang over them going into the last game of the season, and into the playoffs.

re: Say what you want about our defense...

The Saints "D" gives up big plays, and that needs to stop, but they give up most of those plays/yards between the 20's. They have done a good job of stopping teams once inside the 20, and forcing field goals. During the last 4-5 games, they have held their opponents to less than 20 points, average. That is not too shabby. They have also done a lot better at stopping the run.
I really think the defensive woes are more the play calling in certain situations (such as within 2 minutes) that have had these games come down to the wire, like the Titans game and Falcons game. Williams is being a little too aggressive with his blitzes in those situations. I think we have a good defense, just not the greatest of calls in critical moments. That needs to change, and hopefully it will for playoff time.
When I look at the Titans game, I see a game that the Saints dominated and should have won by double digits. Some defenseive woes and some untimely offenseive penalties are what kept the score as close as it was. I am not in the slightest worried right now.

I'm not worried, but will become a little concerned if this type of play continues through the rest of the preseason, especially the 3rd game, since usually, the starters play much, if not all, of the first half.
I do realize it is JUST preseason, but the preseason can set the tone for the regular season. Last year we struggled during preseason, especially on offense, and some of that carried into the regular season. I feel like our performance during the 2009 preseason carried into the regular season and set the tone.
We did play very vanilla against the Texans, and for good reasons, since we face them in week 3 of the regular season. However, once has to assume that the Texans also played vanilla (maybe they didn't) and that is what concerns me. If it was two vanilla teams against each other, the Texans certainly looked like the better team. Did the Saints just take the night off?
I'm becoming a little concerned this will be another year of Brees under pressure, turnovers and a defense, that while is good, has inconsistant games, with an inability to stop the run, and at times, an inability to effectively stop the pass, like last night against the Texans or last year against the Seahawks, Browns, Cardinals, etc.
Again - it is JUST preseason, so I'm not worried, and will hope that last night will correct any of these issues before the regular season. I can't deny that I'm getting slightly concerned, but will not base anything off of just one preseason game.

re: Was anyone really bothered by this loss?
Posted by NFLSaintsChris on 1/2/11 at 4:48 pm to lsutigers1992
I would have rather seen them win, but I'm not bothered by the loss the way I usually am when the Saints lose.
I think the team mentally checked out once Atlanta went up 14-0 over the Panthers. That was roughly around the same time of the drive where Jones fumbled.
The game really became meaningless at that point, other than knocking the Bucs out of the playoffs or just adding a 12th win to the record. I think we would have seen a completely different game from the Saints had the Panthers been up on Atlanta.

re: Next Game:Tampa Bay Buccaneers(9-6) @ New Orleans Saints (11-4)

I was listening to ESPN radio this morning in which they were discussing teams that really have nothing to play for, whether it be they have things locked up already or they have nothing to gain or lose by winning or losing. They were discussing how there is a very noticeable difference in the mentality of the players and how they play.
Tampa has a reason to play and win, because they can still make the playoffs with a Green Bay and Giants loss, I believe. The Saints, given the ATL score, really have nothing to gain or lose. I'm sure they have checked out a bit mentally.

It started out that way. It was the turnovers that allowed the Cowboys back into the game, otherwise it likely isn't that close.
re: Your honest evaluation

We've turned the ball over 11 times in the 3 losses we have, if I am counting correctly. You cannot win like that. Take away those turnovers in each of those games and we likely win. We are then sitting here at 7-0 instead of 4-3. The biggest problem that is costing us games, are those turnovers.
There are other areas that need to be worked on, such as running the ball better, etc., however, despite all of the things mentioned in the list, we are capable of winning each and every one of these games if we protect the ball.

He has been doing that a lot this year. He has been off on his own and I haven't noticed him interacting much with the team. I'm not sure if there is anything to that or not.

re: Stat Of The Day

Do those stats take into account the fact that 14 of the 30 points in Arizona were on the offense (pick six and fumble return)? If not, technically the defense is allowing less per game. I realize that they usually don't take that into account, but is still interesting to note.
