Good first episode but I'm still tampering expectations.
Not sure how I feel about the jump in technology and society to a 1920s vibe. Need to see more of how they use it before I judge.
SPOILERS
Somewhat sad that they've already taken away the chance of seeing Sokka in this series.

I pretty much told you in two of my posts. It shouldn't be hard to figure out.

1 ep
Talking more about the epic grand scale of the series and how cinematic it has become. The bending and the animation is very, very clearly better. The soundtrack they've very much put their heart and their soul into and I actually dig the characters more from the first episode than I did in the original series. The fact is the episode tells us everything we need to know about what is going on and who the power players are in the series. I wouldn't say this is my favorite episode of Avatar ever, since it's really just set-up, but if the pay-off is as good as the set-up, then we are in for quite a treat. Sure it may be premature to call it the best animated series ever, but it's off to a far greater start than than the original series, which is also one of the all time greats. The writers have claimed that the first season is as good as TLA's second season (in their opinion and mine the best season of the show), and they say the second season of this show blows everything they've ever done out of the water. All indications are currently pointing to the fact that this series will be superior to the original series.

we talkin bout 1 ep?
Trust me, all it will take is the opening of the Gates to the Water Fortress for you to know the scope of this is much larger and more epic than TLA. I really haven't seen anything quite on this scope in television animation before.

Yeah, he was the character I was thinking was most likely to return, and am sad that aside from maybe a flashback that he is not returning. Think they could have done some stuff with Sokka and the Anti-Bending revolt.

I only casually followed the previous seasons, as in watched just a few episodes and found them interesting. Would I need to go through the seasons or could I just hop in and follow this current season?

For the most part, it will involve new characters, but even the first episode, they referenced a lot of stuff from the original.
I recommend the original seasons anyway, but its up to you.

Haven't read the thread since I want to avoid any spoilers, and this has probably already been mentioned, but if you aren't going to watch it online the show premieres on Nickelodeon on April 14.

You could do that, but they pretty much point blank state what happen to the characters from the previous series. If I were you, I'd just start the series on Netflix. The series really begins next month, so that's plenty of time to get caught up on. The series is only like 24 hours to complete, so it isn't that long compared to many other series.

Haven't seen the original series in a while need to re watch it before the new series start

Bump for LSUmreed. Let's keep the posts centralized here.
And how fricking badass would it be to take a Polar Bear Dog for a walk? Pretty fricking awesome. Definitely the one fictional pet I would want if I could have it.

Sky Bison is a close second and would be more practical for sure, but to just say you fricking run the town, how much more badass could you get than a Polar Bear Dog? Just terrorize your town with your 12 foot dog and say "frick you, I'm the God Damn Avatar." Could you imagine a Polar Bear Dog Calvary and how everyone would shite themselves in your presence?

I cant believe no one talked about the metal benders yet. Interesting how Toph created a new race of benders.

Yeah, I really like the new Dai Li, so to speak. Very much introduces a new type of bending style to the show with the Metalbending whips. And is it just me, or would those things hurt like frick, as in take like an inch off of your skin? When that shite hit the concrete, I just couldn't help but think how fricking horrible it would be to get arrested by those guys.

It's a good thing all of Ang/Katara grandchildren are airbenders, they need to repopulate

Not necessarily. One of Aang and Katara's kid is a waterbender and the other is a non-bender (how much would it suck to be that kid compared to the rest of your gifted family).
