Yeah I may take a picture with a big bull red but if it is over 30" I'm releasing it

you'd need a chainsaw to clean it and then start picking out the worms
But sometimes I'd keep it. Depending on how I felt that day. I'm the same with bass.

I've got a 650 lb one of them on the wall of my mancave.

How much does the mount weigh?
Posted on 3/8/12 at 9:46 am to mylsuhat
Well if you want to hold the IGFA world record and get your name in the book, you have to kill it. Any grander is fair game. No possible way she's getting released without a weight on her.
FIFY
Males only get up to about 300-500lbs. All granders are females

I'd say SHE'S ~1200lbs but thats just a guess

I would mount the marlin and put it beside my polar bear ;)

My dad has a 350lb one that he's getting a replica mount of for the camp.

Just guessing I'd say it weighs 100 lbs or so.

Must have some pretty serious hardware holding it into the wall
Posted on 3/8/12 at 10:24 am to Boats n Hose
A couple masonry nails drove into a block wall, now. It was just one nail and it surrendered after a few months. slight bill damage ensued..

A big fish of any kind, no, replica. Possible record, its coming in for an official weight.

It all depends. If I had a tape long enough on board and the fish was still in good shape, I would cut her loose.

Hat, you don't enjoy those Sunday afternoon dinners they have at the rodeos? The ones where they have the trustees cutting up bull reds and bull drum with sawsalls, frying those tastey morsals up and serving them with some white beans?

I would take a couple of quick pics and then try and revive her. If she perked up she would be off, if not bring her in for weighing.

if it's a possible record, it's ooming back with me

It just makes you wonder, if you don't keep it, will the next person that catches it?
If its a bull red I won't( hate cleaning and eating them). A marlin that big I would be tempted...what are the chances the marlin survives after such a long battle? What if right when you release it a huge mako kills it?

I read that there is a less than 5% chance they go on to survive for longer than a week after a long fight.

You talkin' your own boat or a charter. In Kona, HI the boat owns all of the fish caught. Good luck telling a captain whose fished 30 years for a grander your going to let it go. You'll be swimming with it.

I have only heard of one grander being released. Almost all are killed, the fight is so long an taxing on the fish they almost never survive. Plus a grander pretty much assures your name goes in the record book.
You all that would release would change your minds after a 16 hr fight. After that bitch kicks your arse for that long you're gonna want blood
Oh and most the time by the time a grander is leadered they are on the cusp of death, theyll fight to the death before giving in.
