re: Have we ever had as "cocky" a starting qb as Mett before?

Mett seems pretty cocky if you see him around school. A girl I went to HS with invited me over and he was at her place as well. Seemed like a really nice guy once you talk to him. He loves him some dip. I don't mind cocky athletes. I hope rivers takes after his brother. It is always fun when he is on your team.

Jesus, have any of you girls watched LSU football before 2000? Tommy Hodson became extremely cocky after his very successful sophmore season and all of the Heisman talk started.

So we're starting in on Mett already, eh? Maybe LSU just hates QBs.

How is Mett cocky? I've never seen him do anything out of the ordinary.
Being confident =/= being cocky.
Being confident =/= being cocky.

I am not making any judgments on how Mett will do, I hope we win every game with him, my question is have we EVER had as cocky a qb before? Based on my recollection no, and it's not real close.
Mett- Very cocky since day one
what are you talking about

Damn, so does JR. Maybe Rivers needs to pick up the habit so he isn't the odd man out.

Why is Mett considered cocky? Not saying he isn't but I don't recall ever seeing any interviews with him where he was the least bit cocky?

Actually it was after his freshman year when Arnsparger was coach. As a soph. under Archer, he became REALLY cocky. I don't think he would've pulled that shite with Arnsparger.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but the quotes below tell me he is cocky, if you disagree fine, but as you can see by posts all over this board I am not alone...I am not saying it is bad even if he is, was simply saying IMO he is more cocky than most if not all of our previous QB's and he has never even started a game. But unilke JJ haters etc. I will be supporting whoever plays all year
I was ready last year if Coach [Les] Miles had needed me and feel confident that I could have gone in there and won games.”
“I definitely look at it as it’s my team, and I’m not going to let one of these young kids take it away from me,” Mettenberger said matter-of-factly before LSU lost to Alabama 21-0 in the BCS National Championship Game.
I think I’ve done well this season,” said Mettenberger, the former Butler (Kan.) Community College and Georgia transfer. “I think the coaches know I’m the right man for the job.
I do feel like I'm a very confident person," Mettenberger said. "You have to be confident in yourself to play the game of football. You look at the Tyrann Mathieus all the way back to Deion Sanders, there's a fine line between cocky and confidence, and you've got to flirt with that line sometimes to be a good football player."
"I feel like I have a very good football mind," Mettenberger said. "I may not be able to do arithmetic or stuff like that, but I can go out there and digest the X's and O's of the offense and defense really easily."
I think I’ve done a good job of really stepping into a leadership role on this team.
"I'm 20 years old. I'm ready to take the reins of a team and lead them to a championship."
"I was kind of a big name coming in with the transfer and everything ... my situation in the past. I'm used to this. I'm looking forward to the season start and to get to play."
"I believe in my abilities as a quarterback, and I think the coaching staff does as well,"
"We have a lot of great players, and the next three years, I think we have three really good chances of winning the national title."

Jamie Howard was far more cocky (but a great guy). He was signed as one of the big 4 braves pitchers (Smoltz, Avery, Glavine & Howard). He was that good. A killer arm, a huge signing bonus, and a starting qb in the off season. Please- I would be impossible to be around. But this was before the internet, so the stupid things we said were kept in TigerLand bars.

you dumbass.
booty was the cockiest. no one will surpass him

I never thought of Flynn as cocky, but he always seemed very confident which reflects on why he is in the position he is in now. You don't make that throw against Auburn '07 or Alabama '07 unless you have confidence. People always talked about Les the gambler but you had to have a QB like Flynn to make it work.
And the Flynn myth continues. Why would Flynn have been cocky? He was an average qb at LSU.

I guess definitions of cocky vary. He seems confident in his abilty and didn't say we will win the national championship or he was the best. He always seems to emphasize that we have a good team and basically want to prove himself on the field which he thinks we can.
Cocky in my opinion would be him saying stuff like:
I was the best qb last year and should have started.
QB position will be better with me.
National Championship here we come.
4000 yards passing is what I will do.
etc etc.
Most of those quotes of his had sentences surrounding them that take some of the edge off of what it sounds like without hearing the question he was asked or the other words he said surrounding those quotes.
I don't know, and don't propose to know. He might be the cockiest sob to ever walk the face of the earth but tones it down during interviews. To me he accepted his role as 3rd string last year, have not seen anything about that not being the case.

you say it likes it a bad thing. the one thing we have lacked is a goddamn leader on offense. Jesus. and Id love to see your evidence or research for your objective list.
