Did anyone really care about the stuff she had to quit over? She was obviously a very talented coach.

LSU got tired of having to replace the carpet so often.

I think they made resign over it. And yeah, I think that was the reason. I don't think anyone was underage or anything.

I think you open yourself up to possible lawsuits when you have a coach banging players. Regardless, its not appropriate and she deserved to be fired.

Yea.. Definite conflict of interest. That's why student teacher/relationships are not allowed even if the student is 18

It was unbelievably inappropriate. Would it be ok if Miles was screwing players as long as he was winning?

Really? Would you want the name of our alma mater attached to that?

Maybe that is what Jefferson had on Miles.

I don't think I watched 5 minutes of any game during that run of final 4s. I don't see how anyone can get into women's hoops, its just awful to watch. Then again our men's team makes it tough to watch as well

Lawsuits from who? I could care less if she or any of the players were gay. They were consenting adults. I'm pretty sure the acts in question were from before she was the actual head coach. Looking back on it, Pokie probably could have sued LSU if she had been fired.

a local coach here recently was fired for banging a student despite her being 18. Like honkus said, I'm pretty sure La. has a law in place banning student/teacher relationships.

it would only take 1 chick to come forward and say Pokey used her position of power to take advantage of her and sue the school. You can't expose yourself to that. They didn't fire her for being gay, she was fired for inappropriate relationships with players.

It was pretty well known that Sue Gunther and Yvette G were both lesbians and they weren't fired for it because they didn't frick players. You honestly don't get why LSU would have a problem with that?

This. I generally don't have a problem with two consenting adults doing whatever they want, but the university simply couldn't allow a coach and a player to have a sexual relationship (if that is in fact what happened). Too much exposure to liability, might even be straight-up sexual harassment as a matter of law. If a professor began a sexual relationship with a student while they had a class together, the professor probably would be fired too.

Maybe I am naive, but gay relations seem a LOT more common in women's sports than men.
I would tend to accord the same level of social opprobrium to this incident as I would to coach / (former?) student heterosexual relations, if "image" or institutional reputation is the issue.

It's not that simple and it is not just because she is gay. I don't know all the facts and I'm not a labor lawyer but the question does not just turn on mutual consent. Was there a system of favoritism shown because of favors given? Was there a "hostile workplace environment?" Based on what we know, it appears to be totally appropriate that she was fired - and the same thing would apply if she were a man.

Seriously?

She wasn't fired because she was gay. Plenty of women's athletics coaches at LSU are gay, I'm sure.
quote:

They were consenting adults.

She had a coaching relationship with the player. That is explicitly forbidden by both the law, and, I'm sure, her contract.

So?

Looking back on it, Pokie probably could have sued LSU if she had been fired.

She would have been laughed out of court by any Judge.
