NFL Radio's Bill Polian "Tannehill is a better runner than RG3, more like Cam"

Really likes Tannehill. Very athletic, will run a sub 4.5 when he runs; A plus character and leader. Very smart and skilled in the WCO. Better runner than RGIII. Compared his running to that of Cam Newton.
He said it on the radio a while back.

I will bet everything I have against this claim. Easiest money ever. Tannehill runs a 4.6-4.7 IMO.

Well, he did play WR originally.

I don't think Tannehill will be sub 4.5, but I definitely wouldn't be surprised if he was somewhere in the 4.5s. Now as far as his running ability, I wouldn't put that anywhere NEAR Cam.

I think so too.
However, there is a difference between being a better runner and being faster. RG3 is no doubt faster, but he's saying Tannehill's running style is different.
As to his speed? Idk. The guy had a lot of catches in his career when he played WR. Wouldnt surprise me if he ran 4.55. Kind of like Jake Locker in that sense.

There's a big difference between Tannehill and Cam...

Well we all have to take into account...
That Polian was just recently fired.

I don't get the Tannehill love.
When he's panicked, he's Jarrett Lee-esque, IMO.

Wait Tannehill has a broken ankle or something doesn't he? He won't even get to run.

Again...
Polian has just been fired.
But I believe he was talking about at his Pro Day.

I love Tannehill, and he's a very good athlete. Racked up some solid numbers at WR before he got his shot at QB.
But he is NOT a better runner than RG3 (don't even get me started on the Cam comparison).
Tannehill's going to do fine in the NFL, but Polian reached a little on this one.

Tannehill is an INT machine, has been since he started playing QB again at A&M. It only gets worse in the NFL. Smaller windows, less time to throw, more complicated defensive schemes. He did not get better AT ALL during his time as QB at A&M. Threw a lot of key key INT's in some big games (3 in 2nd half against Ok St., Texas game was awful). I think it would be a mistake to take him early in the 1st round based on needs, plenty of other guys available that could suffice until a lower risk guy comes along in the draft.

Neither one of them runs anything like Newton

I don't know if Tannehill's straight line speed is better than RG3, but RG3 is not really that good of a runner for his speed.
His speed alone makes him a dual threat but he's definitely not as instinctive running the ball as other mobile QBs in the past. But his pocket passing more than makes up for it and his ability to run some is just an added bonus.

I think thats because of the knee injury he had to learn how to not use it as a crutch early in his career.
Hes got the talent to be one of the great mobile QBs, but he learned a lesson already the Vick just started learning a few years ago. Most mobile QBs look at that first read and then look for a place to run but RGlll wasnt like that last year, he has very good pocket presence

Nice splash for a guy just getting into radio, its like he planned on it causing a stir or something.

His running ability doesn't make up for the fact that he is a turnover machine who throws it up for grabs every chance he gets.
I don't get the love.
