This kid played at Zachary and is apparently very good. Yet LSU didn't offer? Anyone know the story?

No freshman is believed to have been the opening-day starting pitcher in Alabama baseball history.
That will change at 6:05 p.m. Friday when the Crimson Tide starts its 2012 season with a home game against Florida Atlantic.
Freshman left-hander Taylor Guilbeau will be Alabama's starting pitcher, coach Mitch Gaspard announced Wednesday.

I am pretty sure he was 0-6 with a 9.53 ERA against Aaron Nola in high school.

Maybe he's related to GG

To be fair, literally every pitcher who threw a meaningful pitch for Alabama last season graduated or went to the draft. The one who didn't had Tommy John surgery and will miss this season. While I have high hopes for this kid, Alabama's pitching staff is basically starting from scratch this year so it's not like he beat out a bunch of veterans for the nod tonight.

I hope that's sarcasm. Taylor Dugas has done well at Alabama.
And Guilibeau will be Alabama's Friday night starter for now. He's the first freshman pitcher to ever start on opening night for us.

Played against him all through high school. Decent stuff but a total head case! Suprised he made it to a D1 school honestly..

If course it is. He's been a perennial All-SEC player for y'all. Sucks we only had 1 scholarship left to offer & had to choose bw TD & Mahtook (although I still think we made the right choice).
Tell me he was drafted & signed last year?

Manieri didnt offer Guilbeau because ZVR went to the pros. Manieri has a trend of holding grudges against high school programs who have had kids go pro instead of LSU. i.e. Barbe, Zachary, St. Amant, etc. Alan Dunn may be the savior of his job. We will see.

Interesting. I'd heard something along those lines myself, but wasn't sure it was true. Still not, honestly, but interesting nontheless.

this sounds like shite you hear from kids who get passed over by LSU for whatever reason and then next thing you know people think its the truth.

Mitch "Hey Buddy" Gaspard has some connections to the Baton Rouge area when he was a player at LSU and got cross ways with Skip and got kicked off the team (Correction - scholarship was not renewed). Mitch attached his star to Jim Wells and rode his coat tails and now you know the rest of the story.
Google Dax Norris, Alabama Pitching Coach, and his resume is very impressive. Perfect for young pitcher with great potential.

I heard our former Pitching Coach had a meltdown on some prospects parents who ended up signing pro contracts.
May have hastened his departure out of town. Along with basic stuff like not being able to realize that guys like Ott had simple mechanical issues that were hurting them & weren't corrected during the year.

Taylors people said he was offered by LSU, but felt he was put on the back burner. So, he signed with Bama.

not in the inner circle, but not all players get ncaa scholarships. we use the TOPS program, with in state kids to build the program.
the early signees are not officially given out by the staff because they cannot talk about a kid that does not have a scholarship, until he is on campus.
could be that bama offered him & we were hoping he could live with the TOPS, or maybe did not qualify for TOPS

I briefly spoke with a family member of his about it and was told LSU did not offer.
I work with this person but am not close enough to feel comfortable prying. That's why I asked here.
