Alabama signee (drafted by Yankees in 39th Round)
Anyone here got a "scouting report" on him? One of the few out-of-state guys Alabama's got due to come in, so I don't know much about him. I assume LSU passed on him (or else he just grew up hating LSU and has no interest in going there, ha). Is there a reason why? I know LSU has tons of young pitchers and probably liked others better, but wondered if perhaps there is something there regarding him.
Maybe UA just straight up beat out LSU for him and I'm assuming incorrectly.
Anyway, anyone know anything that I can't read in an article online if I google him? Thanks
Alabama certainly is gonna need to develop or find some pitching next year.

Figured so, thanks. Any idea why? Lack of stuff/velocity or command issues? A project? Or is he good they just liked Aaron Johnson, Cody Glenn, Jake Cave, Aaron Nola, Brett Bonvillian, etc. better and knew most of them would make it to school?
Just trying to get an early idea of what to expect from Guilbeau initially.

I went to HS with him, and he's nothing to get too excited about, he's a lefty with decent velocity and good movement/control. Probably at best a 7th inning guy in the SEC by his junior year.

At best? I'd say that is certainly "nothing to get too excited about." No offense, but I hope he's got more upside than that.

LSU passed on him.
I watched his game against Aaron Nola this year and Aaron is by far the better pitcher of the two. Guilbeau got his arse kicked by Nola's team (who were nationally ranked in the top 5-10 most of the year). Aaron was also 5A player of the year.
He didn't look like anything special, maybe a long relief guy.
Here's an on Nola vs. Guilbeau.

I couldn't find anything on only Guilbeau, or the recap of their matchup.

Thanks. Well that's two "long relief guy" responses now so I'll be certain to limit by expectations on him.
FWIW, I noticed that article had him listed at 6'0", 160. Funny how Perfect Game has him at 6'3" 170ish). ha
I'm just hoping LSU passed him b/c they had better targets is that it wasn't that much a reflection on Guilbeau. Not that I was expecting another Taylor Dugas or a guy ready to pitch meaningful innings early...but certainly more than LOOGY or long-relief guy.

I think he's more 6'1" - 6'2", around 170 pounds. I don't remember him being as big as Aaron, and he is about 6'3"ish.

Well, don't expect anything meaningful from him until around RS Sophomore/junior year at least from what I've seen of him. He needs to develop more. LSU had some big targets on their radar, and they let a few big time pitchers from within Baton Rouge go without a scholarship offer, so it could be they had bigger targets and just couldn't get to him. I am not sure, though.

Don't expect him to make it to Bama I think he wants to sign.
