Schaub isn't a leader, the Texans need leadership. Unless Cushing or Ryans become the next Ray Lewis they gonna need the leadership to come out of the QB position.

what position on the team do you play again?

Funny how people forget, with Schaub last year they were crushing people for a while.

Troy Aikman had a track record of being hurt 100% of seasons going into 1992. Track records like that are meaningless.

It makes sense for a desperate team like the Redskins to gamble on Manning. It doesn’t make sense for the Texans.

I think someone in this thread said something similar to that

which ones?

This maybe the worst:

local media hacks have never been wrong

Seeing as Bob McNair has not said he wanted Manning, why should he have to deny it for you to believe it? That's twisted logic.

Next, the whole basis for this thread is a story from a local media hack, based on unnamed sources with "ties" to the Manning fanily. I could claim to have ties to the Manning family, because I know some one that knows them from growing up. McClain is well connected with the team and league.

Did any Texas posters hear Josh Innes call Bob Allen out for the story today ?

Allen called in the show to refute Josh's criticism. Pretty good stuff.

It got even better when Mouton (former Rome regular) called and got into it with Josh. Accused him of being the "weak link" on 610.

Hilarity ensued.

Both the number one and number two quarterbacks for the Texans had season ending injuries requiring surgery. The number three quarterback was a rookie who did OK but is not going to take them to the Super Bowl. This idea of Manning to the Texans has been bounced around Houston media for a few weeks now.

This x's 1000, if Schaub had stayed healthy this team would have been in the AFC champ. game if not the SB.

They lost to the Ravens, a perennial playoff team in the AFC with one of the best defense's in the league by 7 pts. WITH A 3rd STRING QB.

I challenge anyone in this thread to name a team thats 2nd stringer, much less a third to lead them to a playoff win. The Texans will be fine with a healthy schaub, he is borderline top 10 when he plays

Does Brady and Warner count as 2nd stringers to do that

And they lost to them by 15 with Schaub.

I used to intern in the sports department of KTRK so I know Bob pretty well. He may not be the most outgoing and personable guy, but he's got lots of contacts, probably has some close to the Manning family, and he wouldn't have reported it if it didn't happen. That's the Fox guy Berman's job.

I just think it probably went something like, "So Archie, would Peyton consider joining the Texans?" "Well yeah, as long as the team can compete over the next couple years I think he'd consider anybody." Then that turned into interest in the Texans.

There are lots of other good fits for him, but why wouldn't the Texans pick him up on an incentive laden deal if he wants to come here? He'll more likely just play a year or 2 more, then Schaub can take over again. If not, we can trade Schaub for probably more than we spent, have Manning on a cheap contract, and can draft and develop a replacement.

No andre, they locked in on the running game, held foster to 50 yards as opposed to 130 in the playoff game. Having a deep threat is a big deal.

it doesnt work like that. Schaub isnt just gonna let someone come in and take his job, sit in the background like nothings wrong for a couple years and then tale over again. This isnt madden where your players have no ego and you can do whatever you please as a GM and as long as their player rating stays the same then its all good.

Schaub's not gonna let someone just come in and take his job? Ask Steve DeBerg how that works when that someone is a Hall of Famer 5 years after he retires. Like I said, if he doesn't like it he can be traded. Schaub is a good QB, but this system can turn any QB into a good QB. I like the guy, but he's replaceable.

There's no debating that, there are only about 5 or so QBS in the league that aren't. But is he replacable with someone who isn't guranteed to be healthy

Nobody's going to sign Manning without seeing him throw and it probably wouldn't be for a minimum of 2 months, probably longer. He's not any more at risk of injury than any other player in the league, his issue is just a nerve regeneration thing, and if the nerve starts working he'll be fine.

Dear God, are we going to have to explain this over and over until he final either retires or signs somewhere else?

The Texans do not need a QB. There is no guarantee the P Manning playing in 2012 will be anywhere close to what he was. Its not worth the risk for a team like the Texans to just take a flyer on a guy just because of his name.
