For those that did/are still melting down over the nations 17th ranked class

Here's a little breakdown for you that i hope helps soothe your mind.
We have depth. A shite ton of depth. That's the key theme here. We needed linebackers, so we got 5 good ones, plus an incoming transfer. Just remember depth throughout this post.
Lets break down recruiting stars.
a 5 star player is someone who has either the physical tools or skill set to come in and compete for playing time right away.
a 4 star guy is someone who has either the physical tools or skill set to come in, and with a little training, either on technique or in the weight room/conditioning, to compete for playing time. Possibly working their way onto the field later on in their freshman years.
a 3 star guy is someone who is one to two years away both physically and skill set wise from being able to compete for playing time on a college level. Might be a small school kid who was more athletic than all his peers but has bad technique and just needs a few years training, aka a project
a 2 star guy is someone who needs 2-3 years of training in order to compete.
a 1 star guy is someone who will probably never compete for playing time on a major college football level.
Let's use rivals, since its the recruiting ranking negatigers are using to down this class. We signed 9 4 stars, including 2 at the main position of need, LB. Now we have 2 guys who can compete for playing time in their first year on campus, after some good summer workouts and a strong fall camp. We signed 3 more 3 star guys, who will probably get to redshirt and get 2 more years under Moffit and Chavis to develop into their full potential before being asked to come participate in a major role
We got 3 good olineman, a position in which you can never have enough depth. 5 defensive backs, 1 4 star guy, who all get to enjoy the teachings of the best defensive back coach in CFB. All could probably redshirt, but i have a feeling Thomas is going to see the field this fall.
We signed 3 wr's, all 6'1 and above, and at least 1 should be seeing the field this fall as a true freshman.
Bottom line is, we have depth. We don't need anyone to come in and contribute immediately. We have a great coaching staff, that will coach up these guys that you feel are unworthy of putting on the purple and gold, and in a year or two, you will be looking back at these guys like, damn, these guys are good. This is what coaching staffs like Boise State does best. They bring in guys, have them buy in to the program, coach them up, and next thing you know you have a annual top 10 powerhouse. Its a winning formula. Our coaching staff has proven to squeeze every once of talent out of our players. No one should be alarmed because we didn't bring in any 5 star guys in this class according to Rivals. Sure it would have been nice, but not a needed thing because of the sheer amounts of depth that we have at every position. We can and will continue to use our depth to help these "lesser" guys fulfill their full potential before being asked to step into a major role.

Obviously teams with depth cannot and should not have top 4 recruiting classes.

Uhhhhhh No.
Every team needs recruits, but you don't need them to all come in and contribute right away.
Relax we did pretty good, could've been better but it also could've been worst.
Question: How many #1 ranked recruiting classes end up being still #1 ranked after they complete their college careers.
Answer: Most probably None!

Didn't you know this class is chockablock full of "sleepers" and "steals"? There might be 19 or 20 Tyrann Mathieus in that group for all we know.
Funniest thing I've seen is the comments about how it's a "fast" class, like that will mean anything if they are all projects.

I say we stop recruting altogether...
Or at least til this depth problem gets resolved

Oh wait..

No reason to be too concerned about this class. But if this turns into a trend of not getting some of the "premier" players in the nation at their position, it could spell trouble in 3-4 years.
We would hope that 4-5 star prospects would be dying to be part of a program that is close to a dynasty. Even if they have to wait to crack the lineup.

U are rt, at some point you have to recruit top players at positions when depth is a factor. We did it with bringing in Mett last year at qb, we did it this year at lb. We did exactly what y'all wanted. Next year the coaches need to focus on dline.

Isn't it common knowledge that rivals is pretty much a joke these days? I haven't even seen their rankings this year.

Call me a nitwit, but I thought a team had to recruit (and frequently sign) quality athletes at each position consistently to CREATE "depth".
