Wouldn't that be under stamina then? I mean he was hitting 96-97 late in games last year. Once he was hitting 99 late in a game during the warm part of the season.

RELIEF PITCHING
Aaron Nola Fr. *
Nick Goody Jr. *
Nick Rumbelow So. *

Chris Cotton Jr.
Joe Broussard So.
Aaron Nola, the 22nd round draft pick of the Blue Jays, was arguably Mainieri's top pitching recruit from last year. Tiger nation is going to see a good dose of Austin's younger brother on the mound when the season begins and rightfully so. Nola pumps the gun anywhere from 90-93mph on average and has great command of his offspeed stuff that I see him as one of the top guys out of the pen. Nick Goody, the 22nd round draft pick of the Yankees, and Kevin Berry oddly enough remind me of each other. Both very similar pitching styles...nothing over powering, mostly relieing on location as well as contact outs. Nick Rumbelow has made amazing progress since his arrival to LSU's campus in the summer of 2010. Has been working steadily on his command and fastball has reached 93mph with that nasty slider he has. Don't be shocked at all if/when Rumbelow becomes the full time closer. Chris Cotton is back as the bullpen's situational lefty in need of quick outs or lefty on lefty matchups. Joe Broussard's arm is coming along nicely as well, if Chris is not used mainly out of the pen I see him returning to the weekday starter position. I'll cover more of the pitchers tomorrow...

Adam, are your grades on the 20-80 scale based on present ability in relation to college players, present ability in comparison to draft prospects, or projected next level ability?

Basically they're my ratings if the draft were say tomorrow

You think Chris Cotton is gunna be the mid-week starter? I thought I read somewhere that Nola was gunna start mid-week? That'd be awesome if Chris starts, We played high school baseball together and played against each other before that for several years.

Hey Adam, what happened to Jordan Rittiner? I know he had arm surgery last year, but is he done with baseball? Sorry if I missed something, but I have not heard anything.
Thanks for your time and work on this thread.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)

Is Aaron Nola considered to be better than Broussard by the coaching staff already? I faced both of them in high school and felt that Broussard was better.

I think Cotton is still going to be that setup/situational pitcher. LSU is not stocked with lefties.
The plan is to have Nola coming out of the pen in major roles by SEC play

Some players come back stronger after TJS...others not so much. Rittiner's arm wasn't what it was coming out of high school especially after his injury.

Nola looks to have better pro potential but by no means does that mean he's "better" than Broussard and the coaching staff certainly wouldn't tell you that. Both should be major contributors this season.

ETA: my bet is that TH will be back at 3B when the season starts (maybe even tomorrow) and that TM will be at 1B. Mainieri is experimenting now, but it is interesting to guess what the starting lineup will be. As others have said, TM has been hitting very well and he's gonna be in the lineup somewhere.
I think he is gonna continue to experiment, especially the first weekend series; he'll probably move hanover and katz around and have them play different positions as the day before to see how they do... probly also throw in edward and dozar in there too to mix it up some

Have Goody and Berry really looked similar so far? Goody posted some pretty staggering strikeout numbers since moving to the mound less than two years ago.
ETA: 114 strikeouts in 84 innings last Spring, including 19 in one outing.

Great job, Adam!
Solid team the only things we are lacking are LH arms and bats.
Does PM not recruit many LH or is this just the way the chips have fallen over the past few years by losing folks to the draft?

It's just the way the chips have fallen. Most of them have been lost to attrition or the draft recently

Pretty sure he's the only one. Cody Glenn can leave after next season.
