Saints new DC the off season move of the year according to NFL sirius guys

I hope they are correct. Don't know a lot about Spags, but know he has a great rep. But really think Greg Williams was a good coach but we have got to be able to get pressure on opposing QB's without blitzing. When your safety leads your team in sacks and all NFL teams but two pass more than they run you are in trouble brothers. I think it may be more a talent issue than a scheme issue, but hope I am wrong.

the Superbowl hasn't even happened yet. Off season move of the year? I wonder if they're sirius?
ETA: Dont get me wrong I'm, excited to see him come here and hopefully he is the offseason move of the year. But its a tad early to tell. What about when we sign the 2 best free agent linebackers to cheap contracts along with resigning Brees, Nicks, and Colston? That will be pretty great too

i really dont get this. greer is one of the best CBs in the league.
jenkins is a great safety for tackling and usually coverage. GW left him out to dry almost every play. how do you expect a safety to do?
tez and dunbar make me really excited for next year.
jordan looks good, really just need a "natural" pass rusher.
but we do have talent here.

2012 should clarify that greatly. I'm praying greatly it was scheme cuz we have six 1st Rd picks on defense- count'em!

tez and dunbar make me really excited for next year. Me too
jordan looks good, really just need a "natural" pass rusher. he had a bunch of sacks called back for penalties. kinda annoying, but w/e. Dude's a beast and refs are scared
but we do have talent here.amen
Here's to watching the D improve next season.

I agree with this. I think Greg Williams is overrated. His excessive zero blitzes are irresponsible. Who the he'll leaves Vernon Davis 1 on 1 with a safety with the game on the line.

That sounds about right. I'll defend Jenkins. He's a hell of a safety. People judge him to harshly. They think hes regressed or something, but hes deffinitly progressed. Greatly. The Superbowl season he was playing 3rd string cornerback nickleback. We had Porter (playing best of his career and light out all season) and Greer starting with Sharper behind him. No shite he looked better in 2009. Now hes our starting saftey and he plays very very well. Lookin forward to ur LB's takin some blitz pressure off our safteys next season.

+1 I like me some MJ. He lays the wood. People bitch that he's playing bad, but in reality he got hung out to dry a LOT. He had to cover a LOT of ground to allow so many blitzes that included harper.

Im most excited about Junior Galette. I think Spags is going help him increase his production.

I'm with you and think we have better talent than most think. I think Greg Williams just has not got what he should out of some of these guys? Not claiming to be a expert , but does it really take a expert to stop one man(Davis)! I know A Smith was on fire but Davis tore us up, and I dont see how it happened time after time in one game therefore I blame Williams. someone gotta take the blame?

I love it. It also gives us another guy with head coaching experience leading the team as opposed to a hothead like GW.

Where are these "bunch of sacks" coming from? The only game I remember him ever getting consistently to the QB was Carolina game. One game out of 18 games. He has a long way to go before he lives up to being a 1st round pick. I don't know what the hell was up with Wilson this year. Don't see how he missed so much early PT opportunities. Was he hurt? I think the lockout really hurt rookie development last year, IMO.

Gregg WIlliams routinely left scott shanle single coverage on a team's slot receiver.
Think about that.
Think about that.

You can't blitz constantly and succeed as a defense just as you can't NOT blitz every time and succeed. I hope spagz knows how to mix it up a little bit.

Someone posted in anopther thread that teams had simply gotten used to Gregg's schemes and had figured out what to do to deal with them. Maybe just having a breand new scheme right out of the gate wiull be enough to blow the league away as long as the O keeps producing at a high level.

We will already be improved on obvious passing situations. We will have players in their correct positions and not all blitzing, and Jenkins wont be solely responsible for the entire back end of our secondary.
It was clear throughout the season the offense we played against knew who was blitzing and where from. The protections were all nearly perfect. Knowing who and where the blitz is coming from is already bad enough, but the people we sent on the blitz were incapable of getting past a single blocker. No one had a knack for getting to the QB.
