2012: ???

I'm calling it: We shall go 14-0 in 2012.

The naysayers that bubbled up with the sorrow of the title game will- once again- be forgotten.

It's gonna be another strong season.

However, our division is stacked - Bama, Arky, Aub and A&M.

Looking at our schedule, the second half is a long stretch of conference games.

Gonna be tough.

But I think we reach 10 wins or more. Lots of talent coming back.

We'll know more after spring practice.

Works with the numbers on the right. The left, not so much.

Yes this will make up for the annihilation and arse whipping LSU got in front of its home crowd in the biggest game ever in the history of LSU. And LSU is really doing well in recruiting picking up Bama rejects before any other teams. Go Les!

I have said the past couple of weeks - we're really the victim of heightened expectations. With our QB situation, I had doubts on our ability to excel in big games. The defense and running game were SO good at the start, it covered up our continuing deficiency at the position. To be fair, Lee looked good (if not great) until the Bama game, and JJ, as usual was hot and cold. It wasn't apparent until the UGA game, first quarter, that opposing coaches were in the progress of figuring it out.

So, while expecting a great 10 or 11 win season in 2011, all signs were pointing to 2012 when the inevitable QB change (and, hopefully a rebalancing of offensive philosphy), and shades of 2007 (remember how good the 2006 team was? we we're almost there - it wasn't the QB, so much, as just a few intangibles). Those same signs still point to 2012 as THE year. We should be pre-season #1, and it feels again as if we are just 1 or 2 pieces away from winning it all.

Sure beats wondering if we're going to be over .500 in SEC play...

Coaches think differently from us - we all saw 2 and 3 years ago that these QBs were not the answer (I always hoped for development and got just enough not to completely freak out) - coaches just don't play a sophomore over 2 seniors unless, in their mind, he's "clearly" superior.

I would have played Lee AND Mett to try to move the ball and score on January 9th, but I don't get paid to make those decisions. I remain convinced the outcome would have been the same, but we are all stuck here not knowing - as is Miles. I hope he doesn't react and become too quick on the trigger with QBs (which is what ruined Lee, ultimately).

That is one of the skills that coaches get paid the big bucks for - picking the right QB.

06 was the most talented team LSU has ever fielded but they didn't get it done in Gainsville and Auburn. The more I think about it, I don't think Fisher was that good an OC. We should have beat Auburn that year but Fisher and JR could get it done. Les was only in his second year and most of the players weren't his, it was too soon. It takes character as well as talent to go all the way and I believe we may just have it in 2012.

Our schedule is much easier next year. No WV or Oregon, Bama at home etc. A&M isn't that good right now, Auburn will be better next year, but still won't be anywhere near their 2010 level. Arkansas on the road worries me probably more than Bama. They aren't going to be as good next year and have to play here.

When we start considering the Holiday Bowl a successful season, I'll be depressed. Until then, I refuse to let that BCSNC debacle ruin my enthusiasm for LSU football.

Mett wasn't ready for what the SEC defenses would show. Even he would agree with that after going against LSU's defense in practice. Also Mett was a sophomore. Cam Newton was Junior who ran 4.4, weighs 250 lbs and racked 500 yards rushing in the first 4 games of the season alone. No comparison here. They knew they could run with him as well as pass and it worked out for them. And I doubt the level of complexity of Malzahn's offense if he learned it in one spring and got the starting job and that's not a shot on Cam. It would be difficult for any QB without any simplification.

I think it was just a matter of how freakishly large and athletic he was as a QB that was too tempting to pass up. How many QB draws did he run per game? Again 500 yards rushing in the first 4 games alone. His ability to run pushed him over the top.
