Just a thought...

Early in the 80's everyone would watch Dale's teams overachieve and the common thought would be "I wonder how good LSU would be if Dale Brown got some big men to coach." Then he got Shaquille O'Neil, Stanley Roberts, Wayne Simms, Vernel Singleton, etc to go along with Chris Jackson, Boudreax (sp, should know it), and several others. As you know, far less than the 3 or 4 championships predicted by the players and coach.

Now we are going to see a Les Miles team with some really highly touted QB's. Just a worry that the O might not be as great as we think. Of course we had next year's likely starter this year, but I won't get into that.

Anyone else see the similarity?

(IMO, we will still rock 2012 because our D is a proven #1 and the QB's may be cocky enough to call their own plays in a championship game if nec.)

Considering how there is more parity in basketball than there is in football, this doesn't come across as a good comparison.

LOL, only one problem with your post, Les Miles has actually WON something ! Les has gotten to the final game twice and is 1 and 1, dale got to the final game ZERO times and is 0 and 0 !

Line will need to perform better than it did in the Championship game. That's the key to this whole thing. Not just the QB.

The most glaring similarity is that they are each the most successful coaches at LSU (at their sport)in terms of winning percentage post 1970.

The other similarity is that a few posters here will tear down the good things they achieved at LSU.

I was around BR when the Dale era was in full swing. The PMAC was rocking and there was passion flowing. LSU basketball will probably never experience b-ball excitement like that ever again. Give the man his due. He did something nobody else ever could or ever did accomplish.

Les and Dale are both winners. Either of them could drive you insane at times, but they are both winners and good men...

The biggest issue is that the football program is they are not "overachieving". We have as good if not better talent as any program in America. Our players have been under-utilized (not finding ways to get Shep the ball) or misused (JJ was never an option QB).

The football team needs to find an identity on offense and go with it. We went from being a pass heavy team with JaMarcus and Flynn to a power run team with JJ and Lee. I'm all for adjusting to the talent you have, but consistency will bring you the talent you need to be successful.

I've thought the very same thing. Our moronic fans have jock lust for ahole Saban just like they did for ahole Knight. Instead of being proud of their team and coach, they constantly minimize their accomplishments relatively to these other jerks. They kind of remind me of hillbilly wife beaters; losers in life and take out their frustrations on their spouse, blaming her for their own failures.

Guys who don't what an X or O is regularly complain that Les & Dale don't know theirs. Both had LSU at the pinnacle, but somehow did it not knowing their Xs & Os. Yeah, right. Les and Dale both whipped many and X & O hero along the way at their own games.

I still can't get over how our idiot fans take what a jerk like Knight says negatively about OUR coach and uses it as some crazy justification for their own self hatred.

No, neither were perfect, so spare us the 'yeah but' retorts, but they're the very best we've ever had and we should be proud of what they did for LSU.

I wish Miles would ask Glen Guilbeau the same question Dale asked Billy Reed of the Louisville Courier-Journal:

"Have you ever masturbated ?"

All you need to know about Dale Brown is the quote from Bobby Knight in the 87 final four regarding Dale Brown:

I was worried about losing until I looked down the floor and saw Dale Brown. Then I knew we had a chance. ~ Bob Knight.

The only similarity i see is this: both are subpar in game coaches.

Remember that quote by Bobby Knight? "I was worried about losing until I looked down the floor and saw Dale Brown. Then I knew we had a chance."

yea. i could totally hear Saban saying that on 9 January.

Not really. How many National Championships did LSU have in basketball prior to Brown coming to LSU.

Brown came to build a program, Les came to sustain one.

No Comparison. Dale Brown had to got out and get good players that don't exist in LA. A chimpanzee can get football recruits in LA because there is no competion like between Alabama and Auburn. Yet Miles gets very few 5-star recruits out of LA like Saban does. LSU will suck hind teat to Saban until Miles is gone. Look at NC game. Alabama physically whipped LSU at every position with a team just 2 years removed from BCS championship.

Dale Brown was well spoken. Well read! And Honest, to the Truth! And Miles is none of the above.
