this is the craziest thing i've ever heard!! I tried Felix's chargrilled and they sucked. Not even close to Acme. Acme is not a tourist trap. All of the food there has been awesome. Sorry it's not long john silver's.

Never had Chargrilled at Felix's, just raw. Best I have had in the city (haven't been to Cassamentos [sp?])

I've been flabbergasted by restaurant lines before but this weekend was something else. Both of those places had lines at least 2 hours. For oysters!
This is exactly what I'm talking about. I was staying near there and went by these places often. The lines were unbelievable. For oysters. What makes one place's oysters better than the other's? Aren't they all Louisiana oysters? It has to be name recognition. Or what has been mentioned previously, a tourist trap. For the amount of oysters that Acme had to be serving, they can't have some access to a "special, top-notch" oyster that no one else has access to.

they sell more than oysters, and no they are not all the same
and they dont take reservations, thats why they have lines like that.

Man Vs. Food show with Adam Richmond did a segment there and Adam ate 15 dozen raw oysters.

I wish I could say the same. I've been to Felix's countless times for raw oysters and always recommend it to friends visiting town.
The night of the Sugar Bowl, I tried their chargrilled oysters for the first time and they were some of the worst I have ever had. The cheese and what seemed like breadcrumbs on top were tough, chewy and cold. The oysters, that were even discernible as such, were extremely small and tasted like what I'd imagine charcoal to taste like. I tried my friend's crawfish cakes and red beans and rice and both were only slightly warm and flavorless.
Overall, I was extremely disappointed with the visit and wish I had stuck with raw oysters and Amber. It made me feel like an idiot because I pimp this place to all of my friends from out of town for raw oysters, but I had honestly never had another item on their menu.

The one in BR isn't all that great. Parrains which is 50 yards away is much better.

They don't, but all Louisiana oysters are definitely not made the same. See: P&J.

The FQ is probably the worst place to get oysters, just because there are so many tourists. And so, there's a wait and you'll pay.
Many people here laud Luke's for its oyster happy hour (.50 a piece). I am not sold. The last time I went, and this was a few weeks ago, the oysters were tiny and horribly shucked, as in shredded, not to mention the muscle attaching it to the shell remained, making it an even bigger mess to eat.
The best oysters are found in Jefferson Parish. There you don't have to wait as long or pay as much. Oyster specials at Don's (Mondays 5-9), Kenner Seafood (Monday and Wednesday), and Dockside are where you should go if you love oysters.
Felix's is the most overpriced, overrated restaurant in the Quarter, barring Galatoire's.

It most assuredly is a tourist trap.

Don's might be the worst seafood restaurant in the entire New Orleans area.

Dude. There were a few events in town this weekend that caused alot of hungry tourist to go to restaurants. What do you not understand about this?
Gordon Biersch had to be at least an hour wait based on the line I saw around noon.

Every time I've been to Don's for the special, the oysters have been good. The cooked food, besides the gumbo, is not great, but I'm only interested in the raw oysters.

Harbor Seafood on Williams is my favorite for raw oysters!
