I think the best place for your situation is Mr. John's on St. Charles. Very good steaks, along with great atmosphere and service.
La Boca is one of my favorite places, but I don't think most people consider it a anniversary kind of place. It has odd(good) kinds of steak like hanger, skirt, etc.
As far as the best steak period, Delmonico has a dry aged prime NY strip.

One vote for Dickie Brennans. Write Ruth Chris off your Rolodex, that fine company born and bred in NOLA moved to Florida within a few weeks of Katrina.

Haven't had it, but O'Brien's in Gretna is supposed to have quite an amazing steak.

Thanks for all the input. Looks like Mr. Johns is the overwhelming favorite.

I honestly don't get the
idea. It's a damn steak. I understand that one place can age a prime steak, but I can buy an aged prime steak and cook it myself (not that i tend to). I eat steaks rare to raw and I love them, but when I go out to a nice restaurant I want a more 'prepared' meal. That usually takes the form of a fish dish with an excellent sauce. I can throw a $15 steak on my weber for 4 minutes and produce, to 95%, what they can. I have salt and pepper too.
I've had the rare hanger from La Boca and it's great, but honestly the apps and sides blow me away more than the protein. Maybe I'm just a strange dude. I'm generally shocked at all the steak orders by the males when I go out. I never say anything though. Knock yourself out.
I know this isn't the place to bitch and moan, hope you have a GREAT anniversary.

I get what you are saying and I do grill my own steaks a few times a month and rarely ever order them in a restaurant.
There are sometimes though when I want to go to a steak house and be served. I want it to be good. This may only happen once a year where I get in that "steakhouse" mood.
