Going to Gonzales. What should I hit up for lunch?
Posted on 12/27/11 at 1:26 pm to nolanola
Philay's Catfish and More on Airline or Galez Seafood Company on 42
Posted on 12/27/11 at 1:47 pm to nolanola
Gulf Net Seafood on Highway 621.

I have been horribly disappointed by Philays.
Go to Sno's.

Does not make sense.
Sno's is average, at best.

Philay's had a rough start but they have their A game going on right now, I have been very pleased the last 7-8 times I have been, best burger in ascension (zydeco, turkey, or plain), shrimp remoulade salad is awesome, great club wrap, and the shrimp and corn soup is very good as well
As for other places I highly recommend The Cafe on airline right next to elegant affair, great chicken cordon blue sandwich, French dip all at a great price
Kamal's Kafe is the best Lebanese food I have had, but it will take revenge on you
Casa Maria is standard tex mex
Starlight cafe on burnside has great sandwichs salads and lighter fare

Leader's Fried Chicken
Starlight
I wouldn't recommend sno's.
Eta: also Bernadettes's (the only time they're open during lunch hours is Sunday) and houmas house has a good lunch

For a town (and area) known for such great cooks, Gonzales lacks many good restaurants. Sno's is about as ordinary as it can be. Philay's is good, and Mike Anderson's is okay...

When's the last time you were at Sno's?

Dons Seafood Hut by Cabelas, red beans and fried fish is my favorite. Country Kitchen is you want good home style food.

Galvez Seafood Company, Country Kitchen and there's this fried chicken place on S. Burnside but the name escapes me.

Houmas House is close to Gonzales and had a very reasonable prices and selection compared to the night menu. Might be the best lunch food in the area…

Leader's it's on Cornerview right off Burnside.
It was on Burnside for years until that location burned down in the 90s

I know you probably already were in G-town, but my .02
Houmas House by far is the best
Sno's is pretty far down the list. Yes I still try it at least once a year because the in-laws like that shite.
The place by Elegant Affairs is pretty good.
Kamal's uses tons of spices and stuff that make the Greek/Lebanese different from most stuff in BR. It is worth a try.
Starlite Cafe does a pretty good breakfast if that is an option, not sure about lunch.
There is a South of Philly, Rotolo's, and Albasha if nothing else sounds appealing. Also the original Jambalaya Shop is just off Airline by Rotolo's, but it should be noted it is take out or sit in the parking lot.
Anyone tried Young's place? Think that is the name of the joint that is where Aunt Sue's used
to be.
If you are closer to P'ville/Dtown make a stop by John Michael's Good Eats. Huge menu is makes it hard to choose, but anything with the roast beef is legit.
