That was a good article
LSU can't consistently recruit with the big boys in basketball and never will
When LA has good talent, LSU needs to get it and build off of that

LSU needs to establish a program that can sustain and prevent the lean years that were common under Brady, its hard to be patient but time is of the essence if Trent wants to continue

Unfortunately this is Trent's make or break season. He needs for his team to show some competitive fire at the very least down the stretch and at most be at or above middle of the pack in the conference. That's not too much to ask for a guy who's in his 4th season. If the team falters and ends up with another losing record then the Aleva needs to so some serious soul searching or better yet, coach searching. haha, I made a funny.

I think we should see how this year's recruits turn out. Johnny was an McDonald's All American and I dont think LSU has been able to get too many of those guys. We should wait and see what happens.

He needs to win this year to keep his job and I haven't seen anyone argue otherwise. I think the NIT, at an absolute minimum, which should be attainable with an 8-8 or 7-9 SEC record.

LSU has talent this year and depth. His recruiting the past two years has been good. What set him back was not recruiting well his first season, coupled with a senior laden team that quickly left the cupboard bare.

Really for all of the gnashing of teeth, Johnson is only a year behind where he should be. If the year we are likely to have this year, would have taken place last year, the tone would be a lot different.

Amazing that some folks won't even wait until the end of this season. All this talk about we still aren't competitive in the SEC are a little premature to say the least. As in any college sport, recruiting makes you or breaks you. Brady left Trent with a great group of seniors and he won the SEC with them. After that the cupboard was sadly lacking more than two good players. Should Trent be criticized for not getting some decent players in here right away? Sure, I did that myself. Has he finally done better now and is bringing in good players? Yes, I think so. Judge him at the end of the season, not right now. And don't think for a second that bringing another coach in won't set recruiting back another year or two. It almost always does.

No thanks.

a man who is 231-46 as a coach and who made one minor mistake then lied about it. because of that you know he will tote the line. Also, his best coaching job was at a football first school so he showed he can do that. I'd take him in a heartbeat.

That AD of Indiana had a similar line of thinking of yours when he hired Kelvin Sampson.

I was disappointed that Alleva passed over a chance to hire Anthony Grant. I think time has shown that was a mistake.

Bruce Pearl's situation is different. What he did wasn't really a big deal. He would have gotten a strong warning. It was lying that got him in trouble. I would bet you he wouldn't lie in that scenario again. He's learned from that and has said as much.

team this year is better than last year.

at this rate, LSU may win a first round game in 2013 season.

Meanwhile, Calipari has 3 top tier players signed for next year, and is in the running for PREMIER power players and PREMIER small forwards, for the other spot(s) next year.

LSU will not sign ONE player in the same category as the ones Calipari has signed and is recruiting.

Look at the top 10 recruits on RIVALS. there are two of the top ten not yet signed. BOTH are considering UK, UConn and Duke. NEITHER are considering LSU and Trent.

pearl is scum who should be blackballed from coaching in the ncaa. he looked at a picture of his own backyard and lied to ncaa investigators that he had no clue what the picture was of. and that doesn't even compare to what he pulled back in the 1980s with the deon thomas recruitment. if/when trent is shown the door, let's please aim a little higher.

I think Pearl is an excellent recruiter and above average coach, but is a shady huckster that I want no part of. You can justify breaking some of the NCAA's minor rules. I don't care about those. Lying to the NCAA, when you knew there were multiple people that knew, as well as photos, is completely cavalier and stupid. So, regardless of his record, I don't want him anywhere near LSU.

And Anthony Grant? Come talk to me when he's accomplished more than just scowling on the sidelines. He had some success last year with Gott-fired's players. Which is what TJ is criticized for. Beyond that, I just don't see it.

It's all a moot point, because I think LSU will turn the corner this year.

interesting that you don't list the last 5 years of DB's career at LSU.

"LSU can't consistently recruit with the big boys in basketball and never will"

Wow--talk about defeatist mentality.

Ever heard of Shaq, Chris Jackson, Rudy Macklin, Glen Davis etc?

Dale Brown had a tough time recruiting his last few years. Big Baby was left on our door step...I don't see LSU getting a player that Duke, NC, Kentucky & Kansas might want.
