Why did you put that in quotation marks? I never said that.
However, even your comments are naive.
You picked 3 of the top 4 players of all time at LSU, including Shaq and CJ who are generational type players. Rudy Macklin, who Dale Brown hired his coach to get him, which is now illegal. And Glen Davis, who is from Baton Rouge.
The poster I was referring to picked 2 random players from the Rivals list and bitched about LSU not recruiting them. LSU can and should recruit at a high level, but to expect LSU to recruit like Kentucky and Duke on a yearly basis is naive. It has never happened.

Not to mention, if it did happen, we would almost assuredly be facing NCAA sanctions. Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Indiana, when they sign 4 or 5 Five stars, it doesn't raise eyebrows (well maybe it raises that Kentucky kids unibrow). If LSU were to all of a sudden sign a class like Kentucky has the last two years, there would be suspicion.

I do not get to see any games here in Dallas, but looking at the record, I do not see much, if any improvement from yr 1 to yr 3..at this point.
I remember the days of Dale Brown..
If you remember those days accurately then you should recall it took Dale 6 or 7 years to build a consistant winner. I'm not advocating that Trent deserves that long, because frankly he found more in the cupboard than Press left behind for Dale. However, this season, if you've actually watched the games, the team has been upgraded substancially with the additions of Hamilton, Hickey, O' Bryant and Isaac. This is the best defensive team TJ has fielded, including better than the '09 SEC champs. Their challenge lies in coming up with consistant offense but they've proven against Ga Tech, Houston and Boise state that they can be competitive due to defense and rebounding. Let's see how this season plays out before we run TJ out of town.

So is it completely 100.0 % that LSU will never field a consistent basketball program like Kentucky, North Carolin, Duke, and Kansas ?
I mean..will it ever matter who the coach is ? If it is the case that the coach doesn't matter, then We are Fu**ed no matter how you look at it. If there is no HOPE, then we should ask Trent if he would like a 10 year extension. At some point in time, Kentucky and North Carolina and Duke began a foundation to winning. What attracted young recruits to those schools in the pre-modern era ? Why can't LSU be the next Kentucky or Kansas ? Florida , the football school, did well with Donovan is a short time period.
What is with the poor us, we are a football school mentality ? Aim for the fricking stars man. With that kind of piss poor attitude, I won't come to play for LSU either if I were a Parade All-American. Shite, it is not like we are North Texas or Tulane.

LSU will never recruit like those schools on a consistent basis, but we can certainly compete every year.

Saintsfan...I truly respect that premise and I respect you as a poster. But...that type of thinking...leads us to no hope whatsoever to win a NC in basketball or win SEC championships. Look at Vanderbilt. See how well they are respected in today's CBB ? Who were they 10 or 15 years ago ? I apologize to the Rant tonight. I am just frustrated like hell with the mentality that something or some goal cannot be accomplished. I am sure we have alot of successful business men and women on this board. They certaintly have a go get em mentality to climb up the corporate ladder.
If we are not going to win no matter what we do, then what is the point of having a program to begin with ? I don't get it. I mean that respectfully to Trent Johnson and our fans out there. What is our goal. what steps are we taking to make it a reality and not some pipe dream.? I am heading to dinner. I wish everyone a blessed Christmas. Sorry for my complaining this year. Many times, I go overboard. I love LSU like you all do. I wish we could make things happen. goodnight

That's not what he's saying (you are missing the point entirely). We will never recruit as well as UK or Duke does, it just won't happen. That doesn't mean we can't win the SEC or win a National title at some point. Hell Florida doesn't recruit as well as Duke or Kentucky and they won two championships in a row.
How many championships does Kentucky have since Cal became the HC? Pretty sure it's between zero and zero.

The question with TJ has never been his basketball knowledge. I believe (with the right players) he can out X's and O's a vast majority of teams. The question has been his ability and sometimes judgment is who has has recruited.

You misunderstand me. LSU can certainly be a top program. Florida is a great comparison, as is Arkansas in the 90s, Michigan State, Texas, etc. These are great programs that LSU can equal or surpass. LSU can compete with Duke, UK, Kansas, UNC, etc, but those are the best programs over the past 50 years. That's just a high bar to reach.
Florida has been on their level, for short bursts. Then, they step back.
LSU can be top 10, even No.1. Asking LSU to leap into the top 5 over a long period of time is not realistic.

X and O with who, Have you watched the same games I have watched the last four years. This guy is a joke when it comes to x and o's. TJ still has not beaten anyone LSU should beat easily every time out this year, not one teams RPI is under 100, give me a break, and has lost to Coastal Carolina and South Alabama. Tj was the worst hire in the history of LSU athletics including Curly Hallman. Here we are in his fourth year begging to get in the NIT which will not happen either. There were 1500 actual people at the Boise State game the other night, which is a joke also. This year cannot end fast enough for me so we can get a someone who we can get excited about. MT5 and the Lopez twins made this guy look like a genius.

Trent just need to connect to that La. pipeline Brady had going to flow in black gold that started with Stomile Swift up to Storm Warren or was he one of Trent's first recruits? Can't remember.
Posted on 12/13/11 at 7:49 pm to tubucoco
storm was brady's and has gotten worse every year. TJ lost me when he told us help was the on the way and we got Malcolm White. I will give him this much he has brought in better talent but it is still not good enough to compete in the SEC. Middle of the pack at best if does that good.

Johnson believes that you only need 3 guys a class that can play. If that happens you are fielding a winner in year 4- given no sanctions.

Oh really? Please post a quote or link where he, or anyone else with remote knowledge of his philosophies, have indicated this.

Not trying to get into a flame war, but like I said initially, I talked to the writer of the piece on Saturday and that is what he said about Johnson's thought process. Take with a grain of salt, I would if I were you, it's the internet. We were having a discussion on basketball ranging from high school to pros, along with missteps of Johnson( IMO). Btw, Bruce Campbell is awesome.
