Southern Miss' reward bowl game

Looks like they get to spend Christmas Eve in Hawaii against Nevada. Not sure of the payout, but the players must be excited going to Hawaii over the holidays. And a good shot for a 12 win season. SMTTT

Hawaii bowl is supposed to be one of the best in terms of bowl gifts and pre game stuff

Why didn't the Liberty Bowl invite the CUSA champion? Though I would agree that Hawaii is a better place to go if I were a player, not nearly as many fans will travel to Hawaii compared to just up the road in Memphis.

There must not be an auto tie in with the liberty bowl. Just read an article that the cusa commish is upset that the liberty passed on USM.

They have only their own fans to blame. Southern fans refuse to fill even half of the seats at The Rock, even with this stellar season. With no auto tie in, I am sure the Liberty Bowl would rather a team that will likely travel well. With that being said, I am sure the players and coaches are stoked about the islands, as opposed to a short jaunt to and from Memphis. I hope Southern does well. A twelve win season would be great.

This will be a great opportunity for Fedora. Take his team to Hawaii for a week, walkover an inferior opponent, and while everyone is riding high...he can break the news he's leaving for A&M.

I just don't understand. Liberty bowl is supposed to be CUSA #! and Hawaii is CUSA #2. Giannini said

actually, most of the players (current & former) players I know are pretty ticked off about getting shipped off to Hawaii to play an unranked opponent...what I heard is the USM AD for some reason turned down the opportunity to play Penn State in Dallas (i forget the bowl name)...
