How often do you change your line?

AGP, is pissing me off telling me I should change it every month. Yeh. I mad.
How can you really expect someone to change line every month on 10+ rods?

Every month?
Not even every year for me. Depends on use. I cut off a decent amount when retying. I change when the reel does not have enough line for decent casting. I am sure some of mine are going on 5 years.

Dude I didnt tell him that, he keeps bitching about his line breaking, it's obviously bad, he won't change it, don't understand the whining about it

Ok. Still. Every 3 months? Whats realistic?

I'll change mine after heavy use only because I don't want it to give me trouble if we're into them again soonest. Long sentence.
Also, line doesn't seem to store well, or maybe it was real old I only buy smaller spools now.

When it's kinky, but before it becomes brittle.

Once a year or as needed. Again, braided will last you longer. You could have changed all your 10 rods in all the time you have created another unnecessary thread.

Damn i may change it every two or three years.

I agree with Motorboat in both regards.

Sport when I was fishing hard like you, it really depended on where I was fishing. In and on all those oysters in Empire I was changing line once a month. Barataria or fresh, every 3 months. Braid...once a season.

It really depends on line type and environmental exposure. Mono and fluoro deteriorate with UV exposure, so just having the line on a spool in the sunlight effects it. Braid doesn't deteriorate this way. Salt water can similarly effect mono and fluoro.
As a general rule, I would replace mono and fluoro once a year at least, and more often if you fish frequently. Braid really only needs replacing when you are running low.
When I was fishing every other weekend, I would always lose line at a rate that required replacement faster than the line would deteriorate.

At least once a year unless needed sooner.

Agree with 'The Last Coco'
For me I typically keep 4 rods with me 2 braid and 2 mono.
Braid only gets swapped when low. Lasts several years for me.
Mono, depends. Usually i tie a new knot at the start of each trip and feel the line. Usually take the first 2-8' off depending where the abrasions stop. With this method I am able to fish the mono until it is low which ends up about once a year on average.
One Tip:
If you fish freshwater you can fill the bottom of your spool with something like a fitted piece of slim card board and some rubber bands and then only fill a necessary amount of mono on top. With this method you could just tie on 50-70 yards of string and it would be more than sufficient for bass fishing.
My friend uses this method and it works for him, he will swap his line out every couple of months or as needed and always has fresh line.
If you fish salt water this wouldn't work since a red or drum would spool you too quick. Also if you let the line get low and you throw out a heavy enough lure it will actually spool you and you will turn red in the face as you watch your $5 brand new spinner bait launch into the horizon.

When I was fishing bass tourneys alot then I would change before each tourney unless they were back to back weeks.

Usually just every Spring or late Winter (after hunting season, when I start fishing again), but I don't fish hardly at all in the Fall/Winter. If I did I'd probably change it after Summer too.

Whenever I backlash and have to cut out about half of it.

I usually change mine when I've had to trim enough off that I cant cast more than 10ft.
