Let's Overanalyze "Home Alone" and "Home Alone 2"

I've been promising this thread for a while, and the Holiday Season is finally here guys. Whats a better way to spend the holidays by overanalyzing Christmas films like the cynical assholes we are? Without a doubt my favorite Christmas film in my youth was "Home Alone", until of course I ran into Christmas Vacation. People seem to think that Home Alone is ridiculous in many ways, but if you have overanalyzed this film as much as I have and looked at this world through Kevin's eyes, it all becomes quite plausible (aside from Marv getting his face bashed in with an iron, he'd have his skull shattered over that one). Yeah Home Alone 2 isn't realistic at all, but the first is completely realistic once you see the world through Kevin's eyes.
So this isn't going to be an ordinary analysis from me. Its going to be character by character and situation by situation analysis from me on what the frick is going on in these two films (the first more than the second). I'm about to rewatch the first one and take notes and report back on my findings over the next month. Please feel free to overanalyze these films with me and share your opinions on these films.
And by the way, talking about Home Alone 3 will not be tolerated in this thread. That film is an abomination and completely terrible. I've even heard rumors that there is a 4th film out there somewhere *shutters*
Oh and by the way, a cast member will be elected President in 2016.

I refuse to overanalyze a movie that was a staple of my childhood and an important part of every Christmas since I was 9.

When Kevin is all grown up and has a kid of his own do you think he would intentionally leave him home alone to test and instill a sense of responsibility, survival, craftiness, and maturity in him recognizing the values of his situation as a kid?

Home Alone 2 just made no sense. You've foiled there plan Kevin, there's no need to throw a brick through the window and lure them into your trap, just call the fricking cops kid.
What if they didn't fall for the same shite again Kevin??? Then not only do you end up dead, but you've completely ruined christmas for a bunch of orphans so you could play hero. IDIOT

Can one say that being Home alone did not teach Kevin to become responsible and actually take responsibility for his own actions

I'm a bit unclear as to the whole family arrangement. Forgive me as it has been awhile, but how large is Kevin's immediate family? We all remember the big debacle with the spilt milk and pizza dinner scene, but of all those kids how many siblings are his? I know Buzz lives in the house, but is it ever confirmed that he is in fact, Kevin's brother? Again, I'm sure all of this is stated somewhere and I apologize for the potentially stupid question, but it has been a while for me.

I don't understand the love for Home Alone...it's puerile cheese-ball slapstick movie with Culkin doing the same joke over and over and two normally good actors who sold their integrity in doing this movie.
There's A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, Elf, Scrooged...hell, rent a John Hughes movie...
Any John Hughes movie > Home Alone. Toy Soldiers is better. Adventures in Baby Sitting is better. This could be a meme - things > than Home Alone.

Kinda OT but I caught HA2 on ABC family or some channel like it, and they edited out the scene with the twin towers. It proved to me that the terrorists won.

If we're going to overanalyze, I very much identified with Kevin's situation being the youngest of three brothers and having a huge family...the movie came out when I was around his age. I wanted that frickin BB gun too...
I also loved watching movies like angels with filthy souls when I was younger and my parents weren't around..
Basically everyone in the whole movie was creepy.

a recent wtf moment is when Kevin's mom gets Mommy Dearest on him and mind fricks him about him sleeping in the attic alone.
She's all dead eyed and everything. Mom means business
oh, and
the house is for sale, yours for 2.4 million

I'm watching the Home Alone audio commentary and they said that the picture of Buzz's girlfriend was actually a guy in a wig. Mind blown!
