Let me explain things. I had a family member who was a booster for Michigan State until he passed away and I know someone who casually knew Nick back in East Lansing back when Nick was an assistant coach at MSU under George Perles. The person I know had deep connections via family to MSU football.

Nick loves challenges and Nick needs to be constantly told how he's appreciated. He does only want to deal with Football and doesn't like the alumni/booster backslapping and handshaking which is a key for him.

What you have to know is that Nick never really wanted to leave Michigan State. That's no bullshite. He wanted a raise and contract extension and was going to use the LSU offer to get that, but as some of you know people do get tired of his act and the president of MSU had had it and wasn't going to top LSU's offer. He was going to come very, very close to matching it. Basically things spiraled out of control when he and Sexton negotiated with both LSU and MSU and MSU called his bluff and he took the LSU job. He also got cold feet and the day after he went to Baton Rouge he did call a member of the Board of Trustees at MSU and wondered if they would take him back. Think Billy Donovan at Florida who accepted and decline the Magic job.

Now things worked out great for Nick at LSU and Alabama and he doesn't regret the move to LSU at all, but in his mind and in his memories some of his happiest days was when he was at MSU. He has said this before in interviews both while he was an assistant and when he was head coach.

Now Nick loves challenges and he needs to be appreciated. I can see Nick using a Penn State offer to get a counter-offer from Bama and events repeating themselves. Remember Nick needs to feel constantly loved and appreciated and yes people at LSU, MSU and the Dolphins did get tired of his shite.

You see Nick does relish the idea of dominating the big ten at Penn State as a challenge. The idea of competing against Ohio State and Urban Meyer and Brady Hoke at Michigan and in a round about way Notre Dame and Kelly does appeal to him. The idea of being the only coach to win titles at LSU, Alabama and Penn State appeals to him. He can't win 400 games but he can be the man who won titles at LSU, Alabama and Penn State. He would be considered one of the best coaches of all time and that drives Nick.

Nick is also not a conservative republican and you know what Alabama is like. Nick was at Kent State and read the between the lines when he talks about being at Kent State. He is no conservative Republican.

Two of Nick's and his family's closest friends are Tom Izzo and Mark Dantonio at Michigan State and he does like the idea of seeing those guys more. He would also love the challenge of going into East Lansing again and Ann Arbor and Columbus leading Penn State.

Is this likely no, but it's more likely than bammers wish to think.

I can definitely see it.... I'll go on a limb and say that if the BCSCg is LSU-ok state, saban will be the next penn st head coach

However, the timing is not good if it's bama-LSU in title game, and I don't see it (saban to PennSt) happening if that's the case

i am not gonna read that yet but anyone who does not think Saban would not leave has not been paying any attention over the last decade or so.

Saban would leave anywhere to go anywhere.

Would be hilarious but I just don't see any way it happens. If the Bama brass let him go they would lynched.

When coaching change rumors involving Saban stop appearing within a week (before or after) the IB, I'll start taking them seriously.

I do agree that Saban seems to enjoy taking programs from rags to riches, and that he's undoubtedly tired of the Bama media holding him accountable for sneezing, but you can't argue that the man doesn't love his money. Bama will keep dumping it on his front porch as long as he keeps winning 10-12 games a year and one of them is against AU.

Now Nick loves challenges

The SEC is always a bigger challenge than the BIG10, no matter how much you build up your program

and he needs to be appreciated.

So the insane amounts of adoration from the one of the largest fanbases in the country, ESPN, and SEC media members, the highest pay in the country, the Forbes-bestowed title of "Most Powerful Coach in Sports" and a fricking statue aren't enough appreciation?

This is just absurd. He's gonna leave because of his political views? Believe it or not, there are liberals in Alabama. The Crimson White (Bama's student paper) is very liberal. And PA voted for Bush twice. I lived in Pennsylvania. The middle of the state (where State College is) is very very conservative. LSU's own James Carville said, "Pennsylvania is Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with Alabama in between."

I'd guess that Nick's time with the Dolphins was probably the most miserable time that he has ever spent as a coach...I could easily see him wanting to go north where he'd be more comfortable & could still do what he loves at a high level.

He made a lot of enemies in Florida, and even though LSU fans are crazy, those Bama fans are bat-shite crazy. Nick looks very uncomfortable outside of football, and it's most likely that he's scared to death of Bama fan....Bama fans would probably go Saddam Hussein with his statue, but putting a statue up of your current coach is ridiculously ignorant & stupid...I think he'll go north.

The OP makes total sense. There is just one problem. I don't know if Penn State can handle Nick's dominating controlling style after what all has happened. I get the impression that the university wants a coach who answers to them. I don't see this being a good fit.

Nice escape clause. It basically negates everything you typed before it. "This might happen, but if it doesn't, that won't mean there wasn't a chance it could."

Saban last coached at MSU 12 years ago, yet you type like you spoke to him yesterday. I don't think you have the slightest inkling what motivates Saban.

You also completely ignore the years-long process that will be required to rebuild PSU's reputation, standing, support, recruiting, etc.

Bama would pay him whatever...they ain't gonna let him slip away over money. Money isn't nearly as important to them as winning.
