Well, I have been doing my best this weekend to try out some new beers. Here's what i drank this weekend.

1) Sam Smith Winter Welcome - Wasn't expecting a slightly hoppy brown ale from sam smith. Pretty good beer.
2) Stone Vertical Epic - Pretty good Chili Beer. Curious how it would taste aged 1 year.
3) St. Arnold's Christmas Ale - Decent holiday beer.
4) Sierra Nevada Celebration - Not bad hoppy ale, not what i expect from a winter beer though.
5) Abita Select Oyster Stout - Had this at Mellow Mushroom after the game Friday. Pretty good stout.

I still have Shiner Cheer in the fridge, will try that tonight, and still want to try anchor's christmas ale.

Glad you liked it. I need to get over there for another one. Last keg available I believe. Kerry has a batch at his house though, so I probably should just drive out there and actually have the imperial version rather than Abita's "Imperial" version.

Had one of those Sam Smith Winter Welcomes, and I was underwhelmed. Not bad, I just figured it would be a darker beer. Seemed like another fall beer to me, and the spices were very understated.

Stone Vertical Epic is a good one. Have another that I'm saving until 12/12/12.

Saint Arnold Christmas Ale is kinda meh, like most of their offerings. Might start calling them Abita West.

Haven't had a Sierra Nevada Celebration yet this year, but your description is how I feel.

I need to get to MM to have an Oyster Select. It's closer than driving to Zachary for the original recipe.

Shiner Cheer doesn't taste bad at first, but by the end of the glass I got tired of the peach.

I also had a Sam Adams Black & Brew Coffee Stout yesterday. It was pretty good, especially considering I'm not a coffee fan.

Had a Unibroue Ephemere (Apple) on Saturday. Thought it was OK, but won't go out of my way to have another.

Erdinger Champ - didn't really enjoy it. severely lacking in depth of flavor and was quite watery. didn't even drink like a weissbier.

Birrificio Troll Palanfrina - very interesting Italian beer. had a bomber for $10 at The Cove. strong Belgian ale. had a lot of flowery and fruity flavor but was balanced out by a hint of sourness. nice amount of carbonation as well.

Was that from the winter 12 pack?

I picked that up last year and I liked it a lot. Haven't seen it around this year

Yes it was. I've only seen it at the Perkins/Bluebonnet Matherne's, but haven't really had my eye out for it once I picked that one up.

The Chocolate Bock in that same pack was really good. Haven't tried the Vanilla Porter just yet.

I tried the St Arnolds Christmas one this weekend. I really liked it.

Also, these aren't new, but they were new for me. I picked up Sierra Nevada Stout (I love their other beers) and that one was really good too. I also tried NOLA Blonde. I'm not close to New Orleans, so I don't see it often where I shop. Was also good. All in all, a good beer holiday so far for me.

My brother also bought that Shiner Christmas one. I really enjoyed it. I usually get tired of fruity beers, but that one was good.

I had a Baltica 7-Russian Lager, a Pike Kilt Lifter-a Scotch Ale, a sixer of St. Arnold's Chrismas Ale. All decent. Also did not turn away two cans of Coor's light walking to the game. They were free and cold therefore good. Russian River Supplication and Lost Abbey Judgement day are in the fridge awaiting the taste test. Cheers.

If you like IPAs like I do these are my faves:

Stone IPA
Bell's Two Hearted Ale
Great Divide Hercules
Sweetwater IPA

but over the weekend I think I found a new fave:

Southern Tier 2XIPA -- freaking awesome awesome beer

just opened a Rahr & Sons Angry Goat, Weizen Doppelbock.

buddy from Houston brought it to me last weekend. pours great. dark white head and just a bit of lacing. not too much carbonation, which is key as you want it to still drink smoothly. the dark malts are really in your face and there's a good punch of banana flavor to it. very very good.

I enjoyed the 10/10/10 at Avenue Pub last week. I picked up two bottles of 11/11/11... will try one soon and age the other.

Had a Rogue Mogul Madness tonight. Listed as a winter warmer but with all the hops, its closer to a dipa. Citrus and piney hops up front and slightly balanced with roasted malts and caramel flavors.

I'll call it a WCWW (West Coast Winter Warmer?). Good beer and if I were more of a West Coast IPA fan, I'd be grabbing another one sooner rather than later.

B, if you didn't make it prior to Happy Hour yesterday, I can save you a trip. They emptied the last of the keg into a growler for me after my buddy and I had a couple and I asked for a large go-cup. My buddy that was with me is in one of the home brewer's clubs, and says he thinks there is a chance Abita adds this to their rotation, as several of their others started as limited release and their popularity got them a permanent spot (Restoration Ale, other?). I thought it was pretty good, much better once it warmed up to near room temp.

I second this. This one is a good coffee stout.

I've had the Baltika #9 Strong Lager and thought it was pretty good. It only has a C on beeradvocate but I found it to be a better than average lager.
