You got much better talent in Florida
Absolutely - when you look at where college football is today, the ability to pay a coach very well is the only area that Ohio St matches up evenly w/ Florida.

Ohio state has been the 2nd most overrated program on the planet, only second to choklahoma.
Yall cheat and still cant beat the teams in the south. No kid from the south wohld pick living in ohio over folrida. Not one.

UF was riding high after 2008 and he just let the program crash and burn. The lack of discipline, recruiting voids, whatever it was, we are a team right now with absolutely no depth. There is something like 65 scholarship players on the team. That should happen when you are on probation, not when you have won more titles and more games than any school in the country over the past 20 years.
If we play Ohio State in the Gator Bowl, well, Meyer will probably see how far he has fallen in the eyes of most Gator fans.

Lots of retard in this thread. Why do monkeys throw so much poop on Monday.
1) Ohio State ranks higher than UF because they are the only game in town. Literally. As stated regularly, Ohio has bad weather, ugly women and bland food. There is no competition for Ohio State football. A coach who wins is king. That's not to say they are a better program as far as wins, conference championships, BCSNC's ect.
2) Bogus PI call? Come the frick on. This has been discussed for almost a decade now. Gamble was absolutely molested at the end of reg. Had PI been called then, Ohio State would have been able to run the clock out. He was held not PI'd in OT but the result would have been the same.
3) CUM is a liar. No he's bipolar. But that deosn't make him a bad coach. He was a Florida 6 seasons. If he says in Columbus 6 years before flaking out, and keeps the mojo he had at UT and UF, he will win a BCSNC or two.

It shows exactly how far both programs have fallen, IMHO.
Neither of these schools should be 6-6, let alone both at the same time and playing each other.

Where the UF or OSU job ranks is highly debatable and obviously very subjective. You ask northerners they will probably say Ohio State, you ask southerners (and really anybody that likes decent weather) they say UF.
I think the million dollar question in all this, is what version of Meyer do you get. Meyer has two rings, I am not sure the same desire is there when we hired him. But he could win quickly given an easier schedule. I just don't see his Florida connection helping him in recruiting all that much. He doesn't have the best reputation down here and wasn't really here long enough to cement some great legacy.

Exactly. And sadly, our roster makes it look like we are the team on probation.

He'll win games. He'll beat Michigan and win the Big10 for you. Perhaps even a NC. But you're indeed wise not to expect him to work through his contract.
I'm not even sure I believe he'll succeed to that level.
I think Meyer is a fairly overrated coach.
Everyone will disagree with me and point to his success at Utah, and of course, UF, but his time at UF sans Timmy, not so brilliant.
Obviously it takes players to win, and I'm a big believer that talent wins about 95% of the games for you. But Tim was a once in a lifetime player at UF, and arguably one of the greatest CFB players of all time.
Can he duplicate that success without a guy like Tim? You can point to what he did at Utah with Alex Smith, sure. But he didn't exactly matchup with elite competition there and got a gift of a BCS bowl opponent in arguably the shittiest team to ever make the BCS (Pitt was awful).
Meyer is a pretty good coach, there's no denying that, but I think the legacy of him being one of the all-time greats is a bit overblown.

Actually, they have gotten some pretty good kids here and there out of FL.
I'd like to have Shazier back.

Urban saw the losses mounting without a Tebow-like QB, and he saw an opportunity to jump ship.
Exactly what happened. If you go and read some of the stuff said by BG and Utah fans about Meyer the Liar (as they call him) it was interesting to see some of it unfold and come true. The old "Urban Liar" website may get new life.

UF might be a fancier job, but tOSU is easy. Win the big ten consistently and beat Michigan every year and they'll worship you.

That Holmes kid was pretty good as well. And Brian Rolle.

Don't forget the Bellisari bros.
You do have to worry about CUM having lost his mojo. It happens so often in sports.

Florida was middle of the pack in college football prior to 1996 and they're back in the middle of the SEC pack as we speak.
Disagree
Two best jobs in the country today are probably Florida and Texas. Both of them being down for two years isn't really all that meaningful. shite, tOSU just went 6-6 with a loss to Miami along the way

But all that is good about OSU hasn't really generated many NC's in the last 4 decades. One NC in the last forty years. Which suggests the weakness of the Big 10. Meaning OSU gathers the available local talent, but that talent is only good enough to win the Big 10.
Where as in Florida when you have the right coaching has the talent to win the toughest conference and NC's consistently. The history and facts back up the fact Florida is the better job if the coach is wanting to win NC's. If you want to win the BIG 10 then of course OSU is the top program to be at.
This
And when you consider that between Miami, FSU, and Florida... teams from Florida have won 10 national championships since 1980... you have to step back and realize what an advantage it is to recruit in the state of Florida
