NO - he is not. If it were that easy, what happened to Notre Dame or Southern California?

How about Florida? Michigan?

Tough as hell to stay on top. Now we did take a 2 years step back but it moved forward last year and we are on a roll.

Is he also responsible for the great success of the Dolphins this year? Not so sure if you can take one without the other....

Sorry PJ, you're wrong. A lot goes into building a football program. Saban did a lot, but he did not build it. DiNardo, Emmert and others laid a foundatuon for Saban. Saban took the LSU job because he knew the pieces were there to win big and get him what he wanted, an NFL job with total control. He did a lot fo LSU, but he is not responsible for where we are now.

this is just as crazy as the earlier remark about Saban winning with inferior talent. Dinardo left Saban a lot of talent, just as Saban did with Les.

I know we had talent and Les used it better that Saban. But having only 11 recruits is like getting a flat and by the time you fix it you have to catch up again.

So does Mike Shula take credit for laying the foundation at Bama?

Hell yeah Shula doesn't get credit for some reason. Oh yeah because Saban is a God to the fans of Alabama.

Here are the fact.
1. Saban is a dick.
2. LSU is #1.
3. Alabama is not #1 BECAUSE of LSU.
4. Saban's stupid I wanna be Les Miles envy cost his team. Both of Satan's gambles failed miserably.
5. Last year LSU beat a better Alabama team due to coaching.
6. Miles is the better coach!

He restored the program, yes. If it weren't for Saban we probably wouldn't have Les right now, but everything about the program right now is Les Miles'

To build a program is one thing, to maintain one is a completely different animal.

I give Emmret alot of credit for this. BUT YOU are the FOOL if you think Saban did not put LSU on the map as a national power.

From what I understand Skip Bergman hired Saban. Bergman built the program. I could be wrong.

Saban was hired by Joe Dean in 1999, two years before Bertman became the athletic director.

He was saying this all last week and will continue to say it.

IMO, ya got to give a bit of a nod to DiNardo. When he had Carl Reese and Morris Watts, they were bringing back the magic.

He started working to put the recruiting wall back up around Louisiana.

I admire coach Saban, but LSU deserves some credit for going and getting him out of Michigan St.

Saban didn't invent football in the State of Louisiana, but he sure was a valuable asset for us.

F-baum's tune will never change. LSU is Alabama State Champions for 2011! Print the shirt.

it's alway easier to build because no one expects you to do great things and competition tends to overlook you. Keeping a program at championship level is more difficult

Its pretty baffling how many LSU refuse to give Saban at least some credit for where the program is today

The third and fourth seasons, prior to Saban's hiring, combined for 19 wins and top #13 finishes both years. Those 2 seasons (yes, under Dinardo) were better than 3 of Saban's 5 seasons at LSU (including his last).

And Curley left Dinardo with significantly less material and even fewer intangibles (i.e. a belief we could win).

The 1997 team, particularly defeated the #1 team in the country, and was a single field goal against Auburn from being maybe a top 7 or 8 team.

Saban certainly needs credit for the work he did. I don't hate him at all. I still don't like to see him in that script A.

But Nick Saban certainly isn't the starting point for LSU football.

I'm sure F-Baum's theory is, "first there was a pile of shite, the Lord Saban molded it with his hands to make a championship football team."

If any coach wants to make that name for themselves then they need to go turn around Vandy.

Sorry my brother - that decision was taken completely out of his hands. They appointed the search committee and Joe was allowed to participate in the process, interviews, evaluations, etc., but Mark Emmert made all of the decisions regarding the hiring of Saban, including making Saban the first offeree, etc.

(BTW, it was a complete accident - because of his "tendencies" - someone on the search committee contacted Sexton to develop the list of potential candidates - they said, "Jimmy, would Tubberville be interested in interviewing for the LSU job?" - as he had just made the famous pine box jump from Ole Miss to Auburn. Sexton said, "No, but Nick Saban would.")
