Lets say you are looking for a place to hunt deer on. You and maybe a buddy or two. How many acres do you need or want?

I would think 150-200 minimum as long as there are decent properties around you that are managing their herd as well. That being said I currently hunt on <20 acres of woods but there is a large unhunted tract of land behind me if not for that it wouldn't be worth my time and efforts. If you are looking to keep the deer on your property with little influence from the neighbors then you are gonna need closer to 1k acres.

Me, my brother, and Dad could probably hunt on 100 acres, depending on the property of course. That is all we would need.
Of course, we would want upwards of several thousand

Optimal for me would be around 1k acres with 10 or fewer people hunting it regularly.

You can hunt 6 people on 100 acres easily, its just not an ideal set up though.

Our old lease was 3k acres and that was a shitload of upkeep. Not to mention $15k per year lease to hunt the marsh.

300 should be a good start. Can be done on much less. I know a guy that owns 150, killed 13 bucks on it last year between him and his guests. He walks or rides a golf cart everywhere he goes, only is in woods when he is hunting (no joy riding) and is surrounded by high pressure leases.

As much as I can get/afford, but depends on the huntable area. One acre, on the backside of a large non-hunted area, like a preserve, may be all you need. Around heavy hunted areas, you may need alot. Just depends on multiple factors. I have some private property I hunt for a lady that told me to kill all the deer, cause they eat all her flowers and rub their horns on her fruit trees...I've taken 3 10's, an 8, and a wide 7 point off that one acre, with my bow. She gets a Christmas present from me every year...

Oh I know
We've hunted 3 people on 30 acres. But with a property that small, once someone kills, the others hunts are most likely over.

Want of course. The place we hunt now is around 2,400 give or take.

I'd say 150 acres per man.

How many people hunt this property? I am looking to join an hunting club next year and I know rule of thumb for clubs is 100 acres per member but private land is totally different. As everyone has stated it all depends on the setup and adjacent property.

This is probably a good rule of thumb. A little more if it's all flat terrain, and you can get away with little less if there are a lot of valleys and elevation changes. And don't forget to factor in kids hunting.

This is correct. We use to lease 60 acres in Morehouse Parish and could hunt 5 guys. We all knew somebody was killing something but after that the morning was pretty much over, unless it was really early.

I want it all then I can lease it out to all you sum bitches, but I'd reserve the right to kick you out and hunt it if I wanted to.
