Oregon - #18 (BY FAR the best OOC opponent defense)
Florida - #20 (common opponent with Bama)
Tennessee - #21 (common opponent with Bama)
Mississippi State - #22
Auburn - #41
West Virginia - #70 (killer D there)
Kentucky - #88 (another stout D)
Northwestern State - (unranked non-D1 high school level team that has given up many points against other high school level Ds)
All this talk about how big of an edge LSU has on offense and how Alabama hasn't seen such a powerful mighty offense this year yet this powerful offense has scored exactly 1 LESS point all year against inferior defensive teams than Alabama has against better overall defenses.

LSU has seen better offenses than Alabama (although probably not a better single player in TR)
Alabama has not seen an offense as good as LSU's.
That said, our edge in this game is special teams more than anything else.

How bout you show those stats because I have trouble believing Kent State is fielding the iron curtain this year.

Rkansas has every bit as good if not better than LSU in the passing game. The problem is they were largely one dimensional....at least for the bama game.

What are these #'s (ie. Oregon 18). Just curious... not scoring defense or total defense (per the NCAA stat page)

Here are some stats for you PPG for each team Bama has played (minus the Bama game so you can't say they are that low because of Bama)
Kent St - 11.3 (would be 120th worst in the country)
Penn St - 25 (would be ranked 79th)
N Texas - 23.7 (would be ranked 88th)
Arkansas - 44 (would be 8th)
Florida - 29.6 (would be 55th)
Vanderbilt - 29 (would be 62nd)
Ole Miss - 22.8 (would be 91st)
Tennessee - 28.3(would be 66th)
When you average the teams (using a rank of 160 for Northwestern St. even though they could probably beat Kent St or North Texas) LSU still has played harder defenses than Bama. 68 vs 71
LSU's opponents:
Oregon - 51.3 (would be 1st)
Northwestern St - horrible.
Mississippi St - 27 (would be 71st)
West Virginia - 41.2 (would be 11th)
Florida - 29.5 (would be 55th)
Kentucky - 18.8 (would be 108th)
Tennessee - 28.2 (would be 66th)
Auburn - 25.7 (would be 75th)
Kent St - 11.3 (would be 120th worst in the country)

Vanderbilt - 29 (would be 62nd)
Ole Miss - 22.8 (would be 91st)

Do one for the offenses Bama has played!!!

1. Those defensive rankings are higher in relation to the rankings of the offenses you've played. Go look it up.
2. Why would you gumps be excited at all about this game or celebrate should you win, since we suck so bad and are overrated?

Ask and you shall receive:
Penn State - #4 (EASILY the best D either team has faced this year)
UF - #20 (common opponent - Bama scored 3 less points AT Florida than LSU did at home)
UT - #21 (common opponent - both teams scored at or above their yearly scoring average
Vandy - #33
Arkansas - #48
Ole Miss - #49
Kent State - #54 (has a couple of very good D-lineman and a D rated higher than WVU)
North Texas - #82 (worst D Bama faced all year but still better than Kentucky's D).
Defensive rankings weighted for competition:

Throwing out the worst for both teams
LSU average opponent = 55th ranked.
Bama average opponent = 64th ranked.
to be honest, there probably isnt a whole lot of difference in our opponents.

I guess it helps when one of your games is against bamas offense

So a one-dimensional pass attack with a extremely average offensive line is harder to plan for than a balanced attack with a dominant run game like LSU's?
I bet lil Nick would disagree.

Even better average points PPG (minus Bama game) for Bama's opponents = 26.7
Average points PPG (minus LSU game) for LSU opponents = 29.1. Full disclosure I counted Kent St at 11.3 points per game (they score 24.9 in FCS)
Putting LSU opponents at 61st in PPG while Bama's would be ranked 73.
