Stroube's - Not impressed

Reservations were for 8:30 on Friday night. Ended up seated around 8:50. Not a terrible wait, but we didn't get water much less drinks until 9:10. The booth we were in was comfortable, but faced a wall. Kind of crappy.

Drinks were pretty good, but the cucumber garnish on my gin and tonic looked like it had been left out on the bar floor overnight. Wrinkled, dry, and gross.

I felt that they peaked at the salads, without a doubt. Their modified caprese salad was slamming, balsamic vinegar reduction was pretty amazing. The wedge was very good as well, but something in it was very, very crunchy (I'm guessing some over crisped pancetta?)

As we waiting for our salads to be cleared, I noticed loaves of bread streaming out of the kitchen to what seemed like every table except for ours. I would have asked our waiter what the deal was, but we never saw him again until our dinner plates were being cleared.

I had the ribeye with the Oscar topping, wife had filet with a bleu cheese topping. Steak temps were good, but the plates themselves were warm in some spots, and ice cold in others. Steak flavor was lacking anything substantial. Oscar topping overall was good. Crab meat was very good, asparagus was under cooked. Wife's filet topping was odd. Just a disc of the bleu cheese butter covering the entire filet, and completely unmelted.

Being unimpressed with the entrees, we declined deserts. Bill was $180 w/ tip. Don't think we'll be back. I hate to say it since they're chains, but Fleming's and Ruth's both blew our experience out of the water for much less money. Having worked in restaurants, I understand that they can have off nights, but for $90 a head I expected a lot better. I can go to Houmas House for that price.

I really, really wanted to like it, too. Oh well.
