Uh oh. There's a really short dude that's not going to like that part.

Ask Sabn how leaving LSU for the NFL worked out?
Posted on 9/28/11 at 7:59 pm to lsuoilengr
There are intangibles related to being LSU's coach that are hard to put a dollar value on.
Yes, the NFL has deeper pockets, and the draw of the largest stage in professional sports.
But Les Miles lives in Baton Rouge, eats in Baton Rouge, goes to church in Baton Rouge, and is without a doubt the most popular man in town.
Unlike Saban, who is universally accepted as a great coach but terribly unfriendly, Miles is liked as a person on and off the field.
I'm not naive enough to say it can't or won't happen, but being HC of the LSU Tigers while the Tigers are a dominant program is a HUGE thing to walk away from. How do you put a dollar amount on that?
Saban put a dollar value on it, but his personality is completely different than Miles'.

After his radio show tonight, wouldn't be surprised if he left. I can't stand LSU fans.

With what I see, why wouldn't he consider it.

Exactly. It was a mistake for Saban, it would be a mistake for Miles. I didn't cry when Saban left and I won't cry if Miles feels so inclined.

Good for Miles. Let's see if he likes JJ enought to spend a draft for him. They can then take the short side option to the NFL, where it will of course be a rousing success.

Coach Miles is a family man first and foremost. He also makes sure that his staff has plenty of time w/ their families as well.
I can remember this board saying how he was an inferior coach b/c he didn't burn both ends of the candle like CUM did. If he is unwilling to put in the "necessary" hours to be the greatest in the college game, why would he do so in the NFL?

Just like it as a mistake for Jimmy Johnson or Barry Switzer?

I don't think a good NFL franchise will ever take the risk because Miles's goofiness will always make him a hard sell to a fanbase.
Like Rex Ryan or Chan Gailey?

Look, I'm all for acronyms but this one... come on.

To me, CLM can't speak well enough to coach in the NFL. Don't get me wrong, I think he is a great coach and I love him at my alma mater, but the NFL as a HEAD coach..............ehhhhhhhh.

Les dont care about $$$. He's a tiger for life

Jerry Jones can't buy what LSU has - loud crowd noise of 90,000-plus, awesome band, Tiger Spirit, awesome defense, running game and massive interior linemen. I'm sure Jones slobbers at the chance to think he can purchase all of this through Miles for his beloved Cowboys. Miles was already an assistant at Dallas and head coach at Oklahoma State. What? Jerry didn't notice him then? LSU is what seperates the men from the boys on the college level and Miles is a wonderful motivator and recruiter. Even if Jones plops down $10 million, he can't buy the LSU atmosphere that came to Jerry's World twice. You might can buy the coach, but you can't buy the LSU atmosphere and experience.

And you think NFL fans are better?
Les feels the love. He'll make whatever goofy decision he makes in his own goofy way. That is why I love him. If he leaves, who could be mad? He brought us some great years, and no one can say he was not loyal to the program.

Agree, hopefully he doesn't read this board. And they aren't "fans". Anyone who is pissed b/c JJ's charges were reduced and he's back on the team is not a Tiger fan. JJ has been a critical part of this team for 4 years, and we just got better at the qb position. Anyone who berates Miles for reinstating JJ is not a Tiger fan. We have a great coach, and he should be trusted to make decisions that are best for this team, and put the players on the field that give us the best chance to win. It's what he's paid millions of dollars to do, and he is pretty good at it. But for whatever reason, "fans" think they know more about football and more about this team than our great coach.

[quote]quote:"He's the most intriguing coaching prospect I've seen in a long time," said one team executive. "I think he has a great deal of talent and can deal with the modern athlete." And that is what I've heard repeatedly about Miles from team executives. Their belief is that Miles is, as one told me, the next Jimmy Johnson in terms of knowing how to coach the 21st-century player. Take that comparison as you like, but to me there's no bigger compliment since Johnson deftly handled a Cowboys locker room full of gigantic egos. League executives also seem to be impressed with Miles' ability to build and maintain a top-level program. While the challenges and differences between professional and college are obvious -- the salary cap being the biggest -- Miles has made LSU into a staying power in the toughest conference in the country. quote:An LSU spokesman initially said Miles would speak with me. He even suggested a day. Then, communication ceased. My guess: The university wasn't going to help promote the fact that Miles had drawn extensive NFL interest. Can't blame them. But I think they're fighting the inevitable. I think it's only a matter of time before Miles is gone to the pros.
The headline could have read "drug testing being considered for ALL nfl staffs, including owners and gm's". miles inthe nfl would increase my bankroll considerably. some of the point spreads would be memorable.

Good for him! I have questioned Miles at times but at the moment, I really like him.
