SEC is Behind the Eight Ball

ACC ups its exit fee to twenty million bucks and adds two teams. They look to be rock solid and I seriously doubt any of their teams are looking to leave at this time. SEC, B1G and PAC must respond, but how?
PAC can get UT, OU, OSU and TT with a telephone call.
B1G can easily get Mizzou, Kansas, Rutgers and Notre Dame if everyone goes to 16 teams.
Who do we get? A&M is in, but who else? WVU obviously, but who wants them? TCU would probably leave the Big East at the altar with an SEC invitation and they would not be a bad addition. But who in the world else do we get as number 16?

What's wrong with WVA? They have a solid football program and tradition.

I see the SEC taking A&M and WVU and staying at 14 unless they can add 2 ACC teams as well

South Florida is going to be without a home? Holtz is building something nice down there!

Where does Kansas State go in all this mess?

Nothing personal against WVU, but it is a hell of a long way to travel, brings nothing in terms of recruiting, television or relevant fan support.

This.
WVU simply isn't an option. Is A&M going to send their volleyball team all the way to Morgantown? Unlikely.
Its a damn shame that V Tech and FSU look to be more than willing to stick around in a basketball conference.

WVU is ok and they do bring decent FB and BB, but they don't really bring recruits or TV viewers. A number of good to mediocre ACC teams would have been better in that regard so WVU is really a step down from what was originally anticipated.

I really hope ESPN laughs Slive out of the room when he comes to try and renegotiate.

W/ WVU, you're right - Slive will be laughed out of the room.

It's pretty fricked up that we had to hold out on taking any teams because of legal ramifications and now all of a sudden teams are getting poached left and right with no legal problems at all.
Coincidence? I think not.
I bet the other conferences were working behind closed doors to force the SEC to hold off until they got who they wanted so they could frick us into having to take their leftovers.
So much for being the biggest and best in the country. ESPN will have the SEC in their 3rd best timeslot before its over with now.

It's not that far. Hell, Texas will be sending their teams to Seattle and Pullman now.

quote:Utter nonsense. With aTm and WVU added, and the SEC at 14, we will have broader national appeal than ever. This will work to the overall benefit of all in the SEC.

all this talk about USF joining the SEC is making me queasy.
SEC needs to go balls out for WVA and FSU for the east and mizzou for the west.
anything less would be uncivilized.

In basketball an football, WVU would bring national viewers. See how many are watching this Sat. night. Most wouldn't tune in to see LSU vs Ole Miss.

SEC at 14
I agree stand down at 14...let the others figure out this pod mess....we have the only popular and successful championship game 14 maintains relative schedule ease and conference unity. Expand the footprint enough to redo the tv deals but not enough to screw anything up. Slive did a good job with WVU after FSU wussed out once again. FSU>>>WVU=VA Tech>>>>>>>>>>USF TCU SMU Mizzou IMO
