They can't handle the SEC.

OU's president David Boren is an egghead, too stuck up to steer OU to the SEC. He's said to prefer the Pac because of promises he's been getting that the Pac schools will do research projects and other things with OU, and thereby help it increase its status to that of an AAU university, which he cherishes. It would be the crowning achievement of his career if he were to pull that off.
There's also the reality that OU could not ever expect to dominate year-in and year-out against SEC conference competition ... but they'll never admit that.

I don't think OU wants to come to the SEC. They seem to be set on superPAC.
I would take OSU by itself as #14 if we can't get a team from the east to balance things. Above-average football and basketball programs, improved facilities (due to T Boone's $$$), would give Arkansas a nearby rival and could help them establish their own identity away from big brother.

If Boren can pull off AAU membership for OU more power to him. But how long did it take Georgia Tech -- one of the absolute premier public universities in the USA -- to get in?

Besides OU's academic pretensions, discussed elsewhere, as a matter of simple math, OU is more valuable to the Pac 12 than it would be to the SEC. On the field, the Pac 12 needs OU's football pedigree--the SEC does not. Off the field, the Pac 12 needs teams in the Central time zone in order to maximize its TV revenue, particularly the Pac 12 network (OSU fans can expect a lot of 11 a.m. kickoffs for home games if they go west with the Sooners).

This is it. They scared. I would be ok with just taking OSU as well.
Screw the Mizzou idea. Do Not Want

one or the other...

why would we want to teams that the Big10 just rejected?

OU will never join the SEC. Stoops has lost to Florida and LSU in national championship games. He knows the Sooners can't hang in the SEC. He has nightmares of the speed of the defenses.

OSU could be the albatross that gets them to the SEC. It's not clear that the PAC will take both OU and OSU without TX. If that happens they would have to choose between the BE, ACC, and the SEC. At that point they might come over.

Not only that, but where else does the Pac-12 turn if they decide to go to 16, and OU isn't available? Texas doesn't look like they'll ever jion a conference with equal revenue sharing, and the Pac-12's options are down to Boise, the Nevadas, New Mexico and Hawaii without the Big-12 schools.
I'd like to see OU and OSU in the SEC (along with A&M and Mizzou) just to keep the Pac-12 down.

I'd prefer OU/OSU in the SEC over the PAC. I've got family/friends all over the South...so traveling for games would be fun. And I hate liberals, so I'm sure traveling to PAC games would be terrible.
