I agree.

Think about it. Here are four theoretically possible "good-to-great" potential additions to the SEC, from a football competition standpoint:

Texas
Oklahoma
Virginia Tech
Florida State

NONE of them would likely welcome the increased competition they would face by having to compete each week against much tougher in-conference SEC foes than their current Bevo9 and ACC foes. (YET, that said, ALL of them should to some extent be concerned that they may be passed over in the future for top BCS slots in favor of SEC teams that have even one more loss, given the much tougher SEC competition.)

Here's one school that would almost certainly welcome being invited to the SEC, because its football program, stadium, fan craziness, and other factors all fit the SEC better than its current (ACC) conference:

Clemson

However, unless the SEC goes to 16 teams (which I strongly disfavor), it is highly unlikely that Clemson has a snowball's chance in hell of joining the SEC.
Agree with the original post - thanks for posting.

My guess, since Tony Barnhart (Mr CFB) thinks it's up to Mizzou to ask, because they'll be accepted, is whether Mizzou will be led to structure its request for admission such that it makes clear that Mizzou is happy to be in the East or the West. That would seem wise for Mizzou to do.

If it's done that way, then the SEC schools will know - in writing - up front, that they can do their horse-tradin' however they need to do it to reach nine YES votes for Mizzou. That most likely would be by putting Mizzou in the East, with Arkansas as its cross-rival ... for reasons outlined previously.

With TCU's action yesterday, the stage is now set for Mizzou's exit from the Bevo9 to happen any time, probably best if this week, to be followed quickly by the SEC application and acceptance of such application, maybe by the end of next week, and almost certainly by the end of this month.
Interesting story - Mizzou's tigerboard and texags are pondering this:

READ THE WHOLE THING ... some pull quotes:

quote:

Missouri is exploring a move to the Southeastern Conference in hopes of getting as much as $12 million each year in additional TV and cable revenue, according to a confidential document obtained by The Associated Press.

The 45-page document, which was reviewed by Missouri's governing board of curators on Oct. 4, outlines the pros and cons of leaving the Big 12 Conference for the SEC. It was obtained from a university official familiar with the discussions who is not authorized to speak publicly.

***

The report suggests Missouri could earn $17.16 million in Big 12 TV money in fiscal year 2012, compared to $19.25 million from an SEC deal.

It also envisions a far bigger "per member share potential" should a larger SEC -- with millions of more eyeballs in Texas and the Midwest -- renegotiate its top-tier TV rights -- up to $12 million more per year.

Making Auburn change its nickname from the Tigers makes about as much sense as making Columbia, Missouri change its name because there's already a Columbia-based SEC school. Fuggitaboutit!
Duzz is onto something. IF Mizzou gets to join the SEC, its football passion will increase a LOT, methinx
He posted on texags earlier this evening:

"As a follow-up to the "sneak peak" of our new TV spot that we sent out via Twitter (@TAMU) this afternoon, I wanted to give TexAgs some inside information as to what's in store.

Our objective is to reinforce the Texas A&M brand as a premier institution both academically and athletically among SEC fans.

Beginning tomorrow, you will see both :30 and :15 TV spots, as well as online placements, in the following media:

1. SEC games on CBS: We will have spot TV buys in the top 17 SEC markets (Atlanta, Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Columbia, Gainesville, Jackson, Knoxville, Lexington, Little Rock, Memphis, Mobile, Montgomery, Nashville, New Orleans, Orlando, Shreveport and Tampa).

2. SEC games on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and FSN: We will have national placements during SEC conference games. We will also have regional placements on the SEC Network and CSS.

3. Online with key college sports sites: SI.com, FOXsports.com and Rivals.com, with others still in negotiation.

For a preview of the broadcast creative, check out:
:30 -- LINK
:15 (v1) -- LINK
:15 (v2) -- LINK

These spots will run through the football regular season, during the SEC Championship Game, and in SEC-related bowls (minus BCS and Cotton, since the Big 12 is involved).

I will keep you posted as the campaign continues to evolve, but know that Texas A&M will be on the national stage tomorrow.

Mizzou money? See St. Louis + Kansas City TV markets. They will add lots of eyeballs that = network cash (especially combined with the Texas market eyeballs that A&M brings). Also make a much more solid foundation for an SEC Network (see the outkickthecoverage articles about that).
Mizzou has real possibilities recruiting illinois, indiana, ohio, tenn, ky, ark, ga, and fl
Some Mizzou folks did the numbers, and believe it or not the travel distances for Mizzou are roughly equal whether they're in the East or West

and others note that freeway travel is easier for East teams with Mizzou (and vice versa), because of how the road systems are situated.
posted on Mizzou's tigerboard:

"Carolina's 247sports website The Big Spur just published an update to VIP/pay members that basically states:
1. Mizzou does have the votes for acceptance if placed in the East.
2. Alabama is adamant that they not loose their rivalry game with Tennessee.
3. Alabama is also demanding that Auburn not be moved to the West, due to the fact it moves the Iron Bowl to earlier in the season.
4. Article states that with Mizzou in the East, they would get Arkansas as the cross divisional opponent. Carolina, would be paired with Texas A&M.

The BIG news from this update states that the SEC presidents/chancellors will meet this weekend with Commissioner Slive to vote on Mizzou.

Obviously, in point 3 Auburn to West was a misprint.
you're uninformed - over the past month or so, the Mizzou to SEC movement has been an amazing crescendo of fan-based, bottom-up rantin' n ravin' n' other SEC-worthy fandemonia
You may be right - but it's interesting to see how OU hates bevo, too, and resents being tied to bevo thus far
I just posted this as a new thread starter - but it fits here, too, because it shows an OU fan skewering bevo. From OU's landthieves, a fan of OU posted the following this morning:

quote:

Now we make our move.

OU/OSU/KU/ISU to PAC. Put that in a document from the PAC offices on Power's desk.

That dissolves the conference, and leaves UT with Tech, Baylor, and Kstate.

At which point, UT has 5 options, and has to make a decision quick.
1. Drop the LHN and join the PAC
2. Drop the LHN and join the Big 10
3. Drop the LHN and join the SEC
4. Keep the LHN and add whomever bottom feeders they want into a new SWC
5. Keep the LHN and go independent in football, and beg the WAC or Sun Belt to take their basketball and other sports.

Only options 1&2 are good options.
Saw this on OU's landthieves board. Interesting, so thought I'd share it here (I love how it leaves bevo out of the action):

Or:

LSU - the Purple (or Yellow) Tigers
AU - the Orange (or Blue) Tigers
MU - the Gold (or Black) Tigers
Swaim sounds like a predict all possible results, then take credit for being right mel kiper type of guy
Always interesting to read whorn version of history. Akin to those movies that start out with the disclaimer: "Inspired by actual events," and about as faithful to the truth.

Bevo does not play well with others. Nor does it have any interest in being in a conference of equals. Espn money has corrupted tu and it's all playing out so we can see clearly bevo's greed and loathing for others. Doubt me? Just spend a few minutes on hornfans, orangebloods, and shaggybevo to see their twisted fans' points of view.
Handcuffs was the term OU's David Boren used ...

AND handcuffs are in the shape of ...

8

Someone could design an appropriate logo therefore for the Handcuff 8 Conference
see this further news about Carlton, from someone who DM'ed him about this radio statement (seen on mizzou's tigerboard):

"saying this:

"Not exactly. Chip asked me my gut feeling, if I had to make a prediction, and my response was that Missouri would probably go than stay."

2nd DM:

"As I mentioned earlier in the interview, nobody in the Big 12 really knows what to expect from Missouri today, including me""
regular meeting starts at noon CT, but the executive session not until 4p CT. There's a press conference scheduled for after that, but I don't think it has a definite time
