How does a&m make the sec better?????

So when the aggies join the sec are all the top notch kids in Texas going to stop attending Texas and Oklahoma? Two schools that have a rich tradition in winning. I just don't see what league your in makes that much of a difference to kids. I've been to Austin and Norman lots of times, both are great. Austin my be the best college town in the country. So what is so great about a&m? What does the sec get? A market into Texas? Great we will have the one school in Texas that is everone's punch line.

Heres a few bullet points my man Liucci came up with, enjoy:
-A worldwide alumni base of over 500,000.
-The nation's 7th-largest university.
-As for football, the Aggies are coming off of a 9-4 Cotton Bowl season that included wins over Texas, Oklahoma and Nebraska. A&M is ranked 9th entering the 2011 season and Mike Sherman currently has a top-5 recruiting class in place (Class of 2012). Focus on the past ten years if you're trying to break down the Ags' resume but A&M is a rapidly-improving program. Show me a program that hasn't had a lean few years during the last 20. Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma, USC, Miami and LSU have all gone through it until hiring the right head coach, while Tennessee, Georgia, Michigan and Notre Dame are all trying to pull themselves out of multi-season funks. The Ags appear to have broken out of theirs, yet no one seems to care to acknowledge it.
-Gameday atmosphere and tradition that fits in perfectly with the pageantry of the SEC.
-An outstanding academic reputation, one that includes being an AAU accredited institution (Florida and Vandy are currently the only two SEC schools carrying that label).
-A stadium with a capacity of over 90,000.
-Oh yeah, and the Texas television market, which could bring every SEC team up from $18 million annually to somewhere in the neighborhood of $24-$26 million per team. As Andy Staples pointed out in his OUTSTANDING article, the Texas market alone would represent a (edit) 42% increase in the SEC's "footprint" (bumping up the numbers from 83.4M people from 58.6M). That's taking the SEC footprint from 19 to 27% of the U.S. population, including two of the nation's top ten media markets.
For the SEC fans asking why and wondering why the Aggies and not the powerful Oklahoma Sooners, OU is fares better than A&M in only one of the aforementioned areas. The Sooners are obviously one of the top-10 programs of all time in terms of on-field success and rate in the top 3 or 5 in that area since Bob Stoops' arrival in 1999. If SEC fans think that adding a top-5 program is the only important criteria, then the Aggies don't measure up and Oklahoma does. That's not what the SEC covets ... they already have 'Bama, LSU, Florida and defending national champion Auburn (and something like six national titles in the past fifteen years). What the SEC covets is the Texas television market. Oklahoma will NEVER bring what Texas A&M does to the table when it comes to television dollars.

We don't. Your commissioner is senile and only wants to destroy all SEC universities.
Therefore we will join this week. Next dumb-arse question?!!?

Good to see Dodds has started posting in the Conference Expansion Board.

Correct.
You can't think like a fan. Think like a commissioner. This is purely a business decision. This isn't about wins & championships.

That's great, but who is guaranteeing a new tv contact? And now 13 or most likely 14 teams will have to share that money. It's possible the big 12 adds a team and the PAC 12 and the big 10 stay put. At that point why would espn be willing to fork over more money? Then it would mean less money for the rest of sec teams.

THAT is the only thing that bothers me about being in bed with ESPN. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome but at the same time ESPN has a vested interest making sure Texas is OK and that part bothers me.
Say we decide we don't want to go to the Pac, and want to keep the Big XII going. We tell ESPN, we're going to go to the Pac and fold the TLN network down to something more palatable to the Pac12. Because ESPN is such a mover in the college football world they tell the SEC not to take on any more teams because there will be no renegotiations on the contract. Maybe there's a clause that allows the SEC out to go shop for a better deal maybe there isn't.
Could ESPN stop expansion/college movement before it really starts?

First of all let me say that because my son in law is a Aggie Grad and I have a lot of friends who are Aggies, I DO want to see you guys a part of the SEC. With that said, and as a native born Texan, let me tell you to leave that Texas Bull shite somewhere else. It want "play" in the SEC. Texas A & M will not make the SEC better. It will only make it different. Trust me, the SEC has been doing pretty good without you. Hell we have been doing DAMN GOOD without you. Since you are spouting facts lets me give you a few too. Your football team did pretty good last year. It is funny although you boast you did not mention the defeat Ar Kansas laid on you last year or your dance with the Tigers in the Cotton Bowl. Have you beaten a single SEC team in football this century? Hell even Mississippi State beat you. Did I say dance. I meant "beat down". Don't brag about your tackle box of a stadium. It's size would only be average in the SEC. You might have your War Hymn but we have "Those Four Notes". You may say BTHO but we say STTD. Our cheerleaders are hot and yours are gay looking dudes. You may have the "Chicken" but we have Shady's and while you are practicing cheering we are practicing tailgating.
I went to the A&M vs Baylor game last year in Waco. I went with my son in law and daughter ( a TCU grad). My son in law has Undergraduate and Master Degrees in Engineering from A&M. He was wearing a Dat Nguyen jersey. I wore what i thought was a purple sweater and a mustard (gold) cap. My daughter wore a A&M sweatshirt. It was over cast and my sweater actually looked pretty maroon. We strolled around in what I suppose was the tail gate area. We never were offered any food or beverages. That never would have happened in Baton Rouge. During the game, we sat directly behind the Aggie Band. Before the game a short man in a suit with a bow tie walked up the aisle and upon seeing him. Jim, my son in law jumped up and shook his hand. I asked who the guy was and I was informed he was the President of your school. About fifteen minutes just before the game began he returned and he stepped over and gave my daughter a slight hug and then shook my hand. At that time the band directly in front of us began the fanfare prior to your Hymn. He got between my son in law and my daughter and we all all swayed to something about sawing horns off. and Short A. I admit that it was pretty cool. As Dr. Bowen began to leave us after your fight song he shook my hand and said Gig Em and I replied Geaux Tigers.

I know these are universities and institutions so academics should come 1st and be the higher priority. But when it comes to the SEC / Big 12 / any conference.. they are athletic conferences... formed to compete on athletic fields.
So when it comes to the whole "why team X should be in conference X and why team X should be eliminated from conference X" academic standing shouldn't hold as much weight.
And again anyone please notice what I 1st state about how academics should be #1 on every individual school's priority list, but when it comes to conferences.. ehhh.

I completely agree with this. Outside of the Ivy League obviously, I don't get the academics argument at all. Rice plays in Conference USA for god's sake. THe fact that they play UTEP every year in football doesn't make Rice any less stellar of an academic institution.

Yep...that sounds like Baylor. Go to a game in College Station some time and enjoy yourself. Tailgating is not like LSU (nothing is) but we're at least friendly to new people, as you found out when you met The Bowtie in Waco.

See attendance for Nebraska. And you're kidding yourself if you think A&M will hesitate to pull the trigger on expanding once the demand warrants it.

So one game where you were over 90,000 cancels out every other game where you were under it? Face it, the capacity is under 90k and one game when people were crammed in there like sardines doesn't change that fact. Also, when did I say anything about the future? I agree that it will eventually expand but that may be in 5 years or 25, you don't know either.
