How does Texa A&M to the SEC change recruiting players from Texas?

Especially if Texas and OU take a dive from having to join other conferences and travel a lot or just from remaining in a shitty Big 12.
I could see A&M over the years getting some of the better Texas talent, and some of that talent heading to other SEC schools.
Definitely a good move for A&M.

The easy thing is that SEC profile will be raised and SEC teams will sign more Texans. The smaller consequence is that "pressure" in other SEC hotbeds (FL, GA, etc.) will be lessened, kind of like water finding a new level ...

I think this is their long-term goal -- convince Texas HS recruits that they can stay in-state (so parents can see games) AND participate in THE college football conference.
This is why I do not want Texas or OU as a member. It would ruin their chance to break away from them.

I guess it all depends on how strong the SEC has been branded in Texas...young athletes can't help but notice that the SEC has won the last five titles...playing in stadiums at LSU, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and Auburn (and even South Carolina) has to have appeal.
The Pac-12 just seems so far and distant...Big 10 is cold and far away too...

We are already getting good recruits for 2012. A move to the SEC would definitely increase our recruiting of elite players in this rich state. I mean come on its Texas A&M. We won't have a hard time recruiting. Watch for A&M to get into Louisiana as well. Sherman has already been doing that.

I think A&M's ability to recruit will mostly be tied to performance on field. They probably get an early bump from all the excitment, but you have to do something with it.
The SEC will benefit, but mostly from talent that is flowing north of OK and to the other in state schools (ex TX). West teams will be there every other year; east less frequently. It won't be a Tsunami of talent flow, but some additional top guys will come. Ark has the most to gain imo.

Take all the 2 stars you want, but LSU will lose a max of 2-3 Louisiana recruits that they want each year. I don't expect that to change

Wasn't trying to say A&M doesn't recruit well or get good players already. But you have to admit the majority of the ELITE players from Texas tend to go to Texas or OU. My point is if A&M and the SEC play their cards right I could see a lot more of those players heading to the A&M and the SEC.

Just a little something to take note of. The University of Alabama has been recruiting kids from The state of Texas for years. I am not speaking specifically of football but students. The largest single out of state group at the University is from Texas. They have focused on the National Merit Scholars that are not in the top 5 or 10% in their high school class ranking. Those are the kids that wrongly get snubbed by UT and aTm.
Those inroads are what has helped Alabama make connections at a number of schools when they come calling on the student athletes. A&M joining the SEC will only serve to make this happen more often for all of the SEC West schools.

Seems to me that Sherman is the one that does all the evaluating, then when the aggies pursue a Louisiana kid that they think is good, Miles jumps in

It can only help A&M, but at the end of the day, it depends more on their coaches.
LSU/Bama et al already recruit Texas, not much will change expect the sales pitch.
